Repetition and consistency
Do it every time you remember and don't torture yourself if you forget. Force yourself at first and set up reminders, post-it notes, alarms, whatever.
At first you'll be annoyed, you may even feel dumb but after a month or two it will become habit and you'll forget less and less .... after a few more months it will become automatic.... after a few years you'll become so attached to whatever it is you'll feel strange not doing it.
It's how I maintained daily journal writing for so many years. Don't get me wrong, years ago I was sporadic and did an entry once a week, sometimes once a month or skipped an entire summer but now I do it every day. Some days my entries are long, some days I only write a sentence or two but I always get myself to record something every time.
Now I feel strange when I don't fill in my daily writeup.
This only works for normies. No matter how hard I try to set a habit, ADHD-induced executive disfunction comes knocking on the door and reminds me why I can't have nice things.
I can force myself to do something for months, but if I miss even a single day all is fucking gone
Habits? What are habits??? Cause my brain doesn't fucking understand them apparently.
Makes me angry cry
I can keep habits until I travel. 8 months of gym, then go on holiday for a long weekend, and forget that the gym ever existed.
It seems meds have been preventing this and the gym habit has persisted through a couple of trips. But I'm fairly new to meds, so we'll see how long I can keep this up...
I get headaches that last hours. I will forget a dozen times to take medicine. It's so stupid
Setting up immich and seeing the memories of what I did on this day x years ago made me want to take pictures every day of whatever like food or something I did at work just so next year I can see what I did, I wonder if there is a journal app that has a feature like that
I'm not that technically minded to do such things but I do also have the habit of just snapping pictures of whatever I am doing during the day, especially when I leave the house or go somewhere else. If I forget to mention things in my journal, at least an image will remind of what I did that day. It comes in handy with finances or important events that happen. Sometimes when things happen, they don't seem important at the time but then you have to figure out something a year later and you can't remember what you did that day which is where journals and daily (or semi-daily) photos come in handy.
