Why doesn't the Trump administration simply edit the Epstein files and release them?
Not only could they exonerate themselves, they could vilify political opponents. Even if an accurate copy surfaced they would just say, "Nuh uh!" and MAGA would believe them.
This seems like a no-brainer. What am I missing here?!

They already did.
There's that 'Raw Edit' video that is missing over a minute of footage because they forgot to edit out the timestamps.
That, and the meta data shows the files were edited in Adobe
If there are that many mistakes here, then it's likely malicious compliance. Someone was ordered to edit, so they edited in the most obvious manner possible.
This is quite ridiculous how shoddy of a job this was.

They did that, too. They released redacted flight logs and documents that were heavily edited, but it was impossible to remove all references to Trump and various oligarchs they'd like to protect, so they stopped.
There is no "client list" as far as we know. But there are the flight logs, Epstein's addressbook and recovered text messages etc. Those were released heaviky redacted.
Most of the “files” they are hiding are CSAM fwiw. Most of the rest was released with redactions
