I’ve been lurking in this sub for a few days because I’m trying to learn about torrenting, but I’m finding it a bit difficult due to how much jargon is thrown around. I’ve read through good chunks of the mega thread, but I’m wondering if you guys could answer some questions for me.

I’m looking to start casually torrenting just to try it out at first, and if I like it I’m willing to invest more into it and get a mini pc or setup to make things faster/more convenient. Is torrenting small files possible on just my laptop for now? It’s nothing special, just a HP pavilion that I bought like two years ago that I used for college. I understand I need a VPN like Mullvad, but will a mini pc also be protected by a VPN? Is it safe to buy used/refurbished mini pcs?

I was also wondering if any of you have run into issues with viruses or the law.

It would be great if you could share a few basics with me to help me get started. I’m finding it overwhelming.

Edit: as far changing my Firefox DNS settings do I want to change them to DNS-over-HTTPS?
