2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Temps in the mid-Atlantic were well below freezing this morning. I'm going to pass on the Shackleton experience; though, it is an amazing story.

I have seen that King of Oud is a dupe of Creed Royal Oud so I bought a decant of Royal Oud. This was my first try at the KoO/Royal Oud combo. Royal Oud may be my new favorite Creed fragrance. KoO doesn't bring the same complexity, as you would expect. I'll need to spend more time to learn how KoO was intended to complement Royal Oud (if indeed it is a dupe).

I really enjoyed the synthetic edge on this Facharbeit.

    • King of Oud/Royal Oud soins delightful.

the synthetic edge on this Facharbeit.

      On your Naniwas?

      • This one was done on the Shapton Glass stones. The edge passed sharpness tests but did not look great under the microscope. Shaves just fine. It was last honed in 4/2024 so I may do a refresh on the 5k/10k Naniwa Advance. I liked that edge on the Friodur 14 during August. That was one comfortable edge! -- finished with trailing edge strokes on the 10K, stropped on linen to encourage a slight convex apex, then stropped on a 0.75 micron diamond emulsion on nanocloth. (0.5 micron Cr2O3 paste for final strop would work just as well imo)

  • Thursday, January 09, 2025: Theme Thursday - Shackleton Day

    • Brush: Rad Dinosaur Creations "Nebulagance" - TurnNShave Quartermoon 26mm synthetic
    • Razor: Yates Precision Manufacturing - 921-M
    • Blade: Personna - Lab Blue (1)
    • Lather: Stirling - Black Ice
    • Post Shave: Zingari Man - The Master Recovery Splash
    • Post Shave: Ginger's Garden - Unscented Aftershave balm (+ menthol)
    • Fragrance: Chiseled Face - Ghost Town Barber EdP

On theme today with Black Ice. I don't typically reach for a mentholated soap, but I do enjoy this one. I'm a sucker for anise.

Also my first shave with the new-to-me 921-M. It's a very nice razor, and it's definitely a keeper. I only did two passes to give my neck a break from yesterday, but I still had excellent results.

I read Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lansing when I was a kid. I think I randomly stumbled across it in a library one summer. The story always stuck with me as an incredible example of leadership, perseverance, and survival. And, quite honestly, a huge dose of luck. I highly recommend it if you haven't read it. It's an incredible story.

    • Post Shave: Barrister and Mann – Nocturne
    • Fragrance: Southern Witchcrafts – Autumn Ash

Nocturne is so good, I'm really glad I picked it up last fall. The Fili was wonderful, but as ever time I'm using a 14, it made me impatient about updates about the Moarteen from Koraat πŸ˜…

On that note, today's the last day of Koraat's winter break, so starting tomorrow, I'll resume obsessively checking my email all the time for a message from Ulrik.

The brush lost only one hair today. Makes me hopeful.

Unscented soap, ew. I have this tub left over from when I did unscented Austere August a few years ago. All of my other SW tubs have been killed, and I had a hankering to use the base.

The aftershave was also unscented, except for the fact that I dumped a sample of Roman Spice into it, so it actually smells like Roman Spice.

I received a mail today from Le Père Lucien (4 shaving soaps and an after-shave; I will not be able to kill 4 soaps this year, I'm afraid...), and I also got a smush of his Traditionnel soap. So why not start with this one? First impressions: It provides a good and protective lather, but the smell reminded me disturbingly of a Bouquet Garni that I would put into soup.

Official scent notes: Lavender, eucalyptus, thyme, rosmary

Now that I see it, I should have listened to [*Scarborough Fair* by Simon & Garfunkel](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BakWVXHSug) while shaving.

    Excellent shave with the 1912.

    Have a good evening!

    • Razor: RazoRock Cyber Medium
    • Blade: Rapira Platinum Lux
    • Lather: Wholly Kaw - Vor V
    • Post-Shave: HAGS - Apocalypse aftershave balm

-> 1-pass head shave. Quick, but a good one.

I actually bothered to search for at least one brush. Figured I might as well re-decorate now that I have had to tidy things up everywhere: I am looking for a nice pegboard (you know, like the kind you see in workshops for hanging up tools in an organized manner) to give my brushes and razors a nice place in my tiny bathroom.

Anyways, Vor V is a soap I won together with two NO soaps in a PIF once. It's still going strong. It was the first WK soap I ever used and it really convinced me that I need more. Of course it helped that it's a dupe/hommage to TF Tuscan Leather, one of my all-time favs. This here is a bit heavier on the raspberry note, but actually that's quite welcome. What started as a day with lots of rain ended with lots of snow. It will be a wet and muddy mess tomorrow, but at least I could use some warm scents.

Apocalypse is also rather fruity and fresh, much more of a summer vibe scent. But it still fits good enough with Vor V. Plus, HAGS makes good aftershave products - IMHO, these are even better than the soaps by them. Good skincare, no shitty ingredients, absorbs fast. What else could you wish for?

Back for a second shave since I'm slammed with meetings in the morning before an afternoon flight.

    921-M did a great job.

My first shave with the Stirling sheep base and I'm impressed. Very easy to lather and great slickness. Thanks u/archsoup for the smush!
