They went to some lengths to hand-wave "this is slavery but they are really contractors with a conscionable contract, just unbreakable".
They went quite liberal with skipping. The comment from Takumi about Maria was confusing even after he explained it. But in the manga
it was quite a bit more humorous.
So Sidonia is looking more and more like the villain of the show. It'll still be some months till the others are summoned but we got a glimpse of what will happen with them. Let's hope they'll not fall prey to the evil princess.
