A welfare improvement that is forced because of the conditions. It, for me, did not present as viable, but as one terrible symptom of that state of agriculture. Like sterilising or murdering animals because humans, in twisted irony, don't want overpopulation, despite humans being the cause of animal breeding rates increasing over the centuries via breeding and manipulating the evolution of other creatures to be more malleable or palatable, and killing/culling them while claiming their land, citing superiority over all beings.
