China called his bluff on the tariffs, Americans need cheap plastic crap from target more than china needs anything we have.
Trump is desperate to quickly make this appear as a win so he can pull back the crazy tariffs but Xi is mocking him.

Market manipulation is the point. Every time he makes a statement the market reacts which allows people who are in on it to make money hand over fist.
Also Trump's voterbase will believe anything he says over anything Xi says
