I've never had the plastic combs break across the three clippers I've owned. I've replaced the clippers because the blade was dull, and buying new blades, sold in sets of two, cost as much as both having the blade sharpened, and buying an entire new clipper set. Of the three options, only the entire new set is available at the store for purchase the next time I go shopping.
I'm sure this is planned.
