I think "Ray" could have worked. "Regarding Raymond" sounds pompous for some reason and "Guy Named Ray" just doesn't have the right flow that it looks like it has.

It course, based on the article, I get the feeling any version of "Ray/Raymond" was the issue. Probably wanted something like, "Married with Children" or "Family Matters", something family without saying the name Ray.

Of course given that the show is mostly jokes at Raymonds expense, I think "Everybody Loves Raymond" works well.
