  • I still really think you shouldn't copy other people's self-posts like this. The original OP from Reddit is very unlikely to see the responses here, and unless you directly asked them, you have no idea if they're okay with you copying their post word by word. It would have taken you a couple of minutes tops to write your own post with this link.

Now then, about the article: It seems to get most of the facts right. If some parent is looking for info about furries, I hope they find this one before some of the fear-mongering ones out there.

It's kinda funny tho that the first bolded paragraphs basically says "this is for informational purposes only, we’re not promoting this activity." You're talking about a hobby, not giving financial advice ffs.

It's good that it debunks the litter boxes in schools hoax right away. That was very much floating around in 2023 when this was published.

The fact remains that beneath the suit or persona is a real person, and we know that some people, by virtue of their sexual motivation, will invariably represent a risk.

This paragraph is repeated three times in bold for some reason. The statement is obviously true, but it has nothing to do with furries specifically. Does your child ever interact with other humans? The fact remains that some people will invariably represent a risk!!!

If a child or young person shows interest and/or decides to become a Furry, they may be subjected to bullying from their peers (or others) both online and offline.

Such a bad take. Maybe try to prevent bullying instead of telling kids not to express themselves because they might get bullied.

The "What can I do?" section has solid advice, and they end by linking to Furscience, which is awesome to see. Overall, the article mostly gets the facts right, but like usual, the underlying tone treats furry as some dangerous hobby parents need to watch out for. Imagine if this was written about playing chess. Would it have the scary danger list with the risk gauge animation? Probably not, even though we could come up with ten risks about playing chess if we wanted to.
