Talk Talk's last three albums have been all-time favorites for almost 30 years for me. The metamorphosis they went through is one of the most amazing things to happen in Pop history.
Things I remember from an interview with Mark Hollis:
The last two albums were basically improvised, except he called it instant composing - something I, as a musician, have thought about a lot over the decades. And how that differs from Jazz or endless hippie rock guitar solos.
- I wonder if the instant composing is related to how Lubomyr Melnyk composes? Also, Shazad Ishmaily creates his music?
  
  Related, surely. But I know we were using those same methods in my band way back when, inspired merely by their music. And CAN who used a similar concept (though it has to be added that Holger Czukay did a lot of magic in post-production).
  The theorising came later.
