I used to love Igorr. Shame they started using AI.
why? They created their own model using their own work, rendered it locally, and used it as a basis and enhanced it with their usual 3d work.
so....
No ethical problems with plagiarism
No ethical problems with power use, since they use similar amounts of electicity/etc as they would rendering their 3d stuff
Not just "make a music video for this song" put into an LLM, more effort was used
Not costing any jobs, since they used all the same staff to set up the other scenes and the workers experimented with the new technology.
Quite frankly I don't believe any of the claims being made by Serre.
Using all of their own work would not be anywhere close to a large enough sample size to train an AI on.
I cannot find anywhere that Serre or Meat Dept has even addressed power concerns, so I'm not sure where you are getting that from. Assuming they are using an AI it would definitely be using more power than just rendering something made manually. Theoretically they could find a way to ensure they are using all renewables, but if that was the case they should be shouting that from the rooftops considering that's one of the biggest problems with AI.
I don't really care about the amount of human effort that goes into it- some of my favorite music videos are really simple and didn't require a ton of labor hours to produce. Bigger production doesn't necessarily mean better.
They do? Nooooo ... 😓 That sucks, I love their music.
