Which stat should I focus on with the Farron Greatsword?
I was previously using the Heavy Greatsword with a Heavy Gem (I think?) that makes its Str scaling go up to A but have discovered the Farron Greatsword for myself and am liking the moveset a lot.
Since I had previously been speccing for Str, I have 34 Str and only the required 20 Dex with a ring for the Farron Greatsword. Should I focus on Dex now or should I keep leveling Str? I think soft caps are a thing and the C scaling vs the D scaling is also telling, but I wasn't sure regardless.
Thanks!
The scaling ramps up on Dex pretty hard as you level the weapon; you'll be in B scaling with Dex by +2, vs at a D in Str, and at +5 you get to A while Str languishes at C.
Also if you're around the Watchers with 34 Str and 20 Dex, and haven't been farming to get overleveled, you might need to spend a few more points on Vig or End before putting any more into damage; I'd be curious to get a look at your stat screen if you'd like to share. How are you finding your survivability with this build?
Currently in Irithyll after killing this priest gank boss (???) and finding my killing power quite ok for how much damage the pontiffs are dealing here. I can usually tank a couple of hits, but the L1 mobility of the sword is usually quite good to maneuver around the enemies and stagger-lock them with attacks. Trying to find a good way back to the fog wall I discovered and didn't go through because I thought I could find a shortcut. Other than that, I could imagine that I'm a little underleveled, but I don't notice it too much I think
Edit: Jesus christ, I just tried the Heavy Greatsword against these pontiffs and I just two-shot them at +5. Guess I'll go back to this one for some time until I can upgrade the Farron Greatsword a little more
Man, with a +5 Heavy Greatsword and 34 Strength I'm not surprised you're flattening those poor priests :P
From that screenshot, you're good on vig, and I don't think you need to respec to optimise the Farron Greatsword unless you can't have fun without minmaxxing. I uh... I'd say don't go hollow, but I see I'm a little late for that 😅
