The real story is that the current government has deliberately put the public at risk by hiding the truth about its climate change denialism from the public. There has been a deliberate attempt to create a climate where the government is willing to sell the public down the river for political gain, even though the alternative is to have a massive increase in carbon emissions. This is a massive waste of public money which they should not have been hiding from the public for political gain.

I don't want to be accused of being anti-pope by you, but I'm very familiar with the accusations against David Pope and the response to the accusations. I also do not find this post particularly credible, as I don't find anything that he does to be the "real" reason for the allegations. I am not saying that I'm 100% certain about the facts, just that I can find the most credible and trustworthy sources and find the most credible way to answer the questions. I would be very surprised if the accusations are actually true and the responses to the claims are just false.
The OP is correct that there is no real "consensus" on what the real reason for these accusations is. There is simply a lotus bing out amongst people who have never even read the thread before. And the same is true of all governments in general. Governments have always used the public interest as part of their political goals, even if it is tangentially used to achieve their goals. This is why the US is seen as a "bad" place to have your comment removed. You’re asking for something that the mods don't like, which is not really the case in the US. The mods of r/askhistorians are happy to give you a break and provide a space to ask your question, but they are not allowed to remove your comment based on your post.
