Inspired by a recent article, I'm running 5k every day in September
This is the article in question.
My rules are:
- If it's raining, I can skip that day, but must make up the distance later.
- No banking ahead of time for rain.
- No banking or making up distance for any other reason. The run must be every day.
- Injury is a valid reason to skip a day, without making up later.
I invite anyone else who's interested to join in their own identical or similar challenge.
As someone whose current best streak before breaking my foot was 898 days, why would you not run when it is raining? They are some of the best runs? Seems like a weird rule to me.
Either way, good luck though! Running everyday is great and I wish current injuries didn't keep me from doing it!
I agree, running in rain can be awesome...however...I use glasses, and if its anymore than a slight drizzle, droplets and fogging will seriously reduce visibility to the point where I can't safely navigate.
That is fair enough and is an aspect I didn't consider not having to use them myself. It is just a shame as like 80% of my best ever runs have been during downpours or snow or other inclement weather.
The other 20% tend to be from beautiful places I may not usually run like when ive been on holidays.
Have you tried wearing a cap? That works really well for me in the rain.
I don't mind too much if it starts a light shower while I'm already out running. It can even be nice to be cooled down by it, if it's a hot day (unlikely, given I'm starting this challenge on the first day of spring). But the feeling of heading out into the rain is absolutely miserable.
And if the rain is heavier than a light shower, even continuing to run is no fun. Needing to squint and constantly wipe my eyes. The gross feeling of wet soggy socks. No thanks.
Fair enough I guess, I completely disagree but we are all different :D
My favourite half marathon I did was during torrential downpours and I had to wade through a stream that had broken its banks and was nearly up to my knees. You get to a point where your feet can't get any wetter and embrace it. It was fucking great! :D
