I hate how people are cheering this on. 32bit has its place and linux has always been a sanctuary for legacy hardware.
Nobody stops you from using a version there's in 32-bit...
And no - there's not much hardware out there, who doesn't run 64-bit now... Even Linux is slowly moving away from 32-bit...
There's hardware as recent as like mid-late 2000s that's 32bit. That's still within the realm of stuff that consumers might be using, let alone corporate/industrial applications.
Even if Firefox leaves us behind, the kernel likely won't stop supporting it for years to come. We just removed 486 support. Surely 32bit support will be around a while.
This is good. I know distros are antsy to drop it, but it's the legacy apps that need to come around too. I think steam is one of the worst offenders
My suspicion is that Steam intentionally does this to ensure you're compatible with all their old 32-bit games.
Hopefully this forces their hand
Good choice. Like stopping to make VHS while the CD is around.
With linux ditching 32bit, it was enviable things like this are to follow
Where is this coming from?
Linux isn't ditching it. A few distros stopped supporting it.
Linux kernel dropped i368, i468 and a few i568 architectures, and i redid some investigations. I was wrong sorry. I thought pendium d was a cpu line after the pentium 4 line, and that was the turning point, but its the original pentium line that gets ditched. My mistake ^^
Most serious distros are stopping their support for 32-bit... Not a few - the most prominent, which most of the others are build from.

I actually would like to see how many people were actually using the 32 bit version of Firefox in 2025 can't be a lot
I did sometimes
