My reaction when there's a new Star Trek show for pre-schoolers

Exec: We need to sell products but our audience are all over 30 and are swimming in debt.

I don't think the people watching this show are going to be the ones paying for paramount plus subscriptions

I watched... I have no idea what to say as I don't have or know any pre-schoolers.

I usually dislike "back in my day" comments, but when I was a pre-schooler I watched TNG. Did I understand anything? Not at all. Did it instill a lifelong love of the franchise? Possibly.

Prodigy was an excellent show, I guess it's also "for kids" but older ones, I thoroughly enjoyed it as an adult. Scouts, from what I can tell from those 8 bizarre minutes, is more at the level of Discovery in terms of quality of writing.

I think it’s less “I’m not the target audience” and more if you’re going to do a Star Trek [insert genre/target audience] show, do it right.
It’s certainly possible to create an intelligent pre-school show that isn’t painful for adults to watch. Take Bluey, for instance. Toddlers love that show, but it also has a cult following among the adults that watch it with their kids, and the style doesn’t look like every single other kids television series on the air.
In comparison, Scouts has a cheap-looking generic style I’ve seen before, and the plots we’ve seem are absolutely brain-dead and superficial. Sure, maybe we don’t need the kids to talk at length about the subspace plasma inverter matrix manifolds or whatever, but that doesn’t mean the show can’t be more than just bright colors and barely coherent plots. It just doesn’t do any justice whatsoever to what Star Trek is.
- Hate to be negative, but I have to agree. Bluey is a great example, and Sesame Street is another. There are shows like that I’d be happy to have a toddler watch. This just seems to offer a convenient distraction to allow parents five minutes of peace in exchange for familiarizing their kids with the Star Trek brand from a young age. Cynical and disappointing.
It is wild to see the entitlement of some segments of the fanbase. These people would shit and piss their pants if they were comic book fans.

More evidence that the current showrunners have no idea what to do with the franchise.

Next: a Trek-themed cooking show.

While I personally have no interest in watching a youtube show for three year olds, as a new uncle, I hope the show will be a good entry point into the franchise for my niblings once they’re old enough to get something out of it.
As for a cooking show, don’t threaten me with a good time. Let’s see Latinum Chef Romulus’ reaction when the challenge ingredient is leola root.

- You guys are all imaging good shows that stick with the established characters and don't retcon the universe, your imaginations are far better than what would actually be created.
  The most exotic and amusing chef on the show - Neelix, would be absent. Data is back and well (no explanation offered) and cooks up a plate of synthetic oil, writers not knowing he can taste and wants to study and be part of human culture and make things his friends can also enjoy. Tilly has a meltdown because she's done the recipe wrong and everything's burnt - everyone who tries to help her also cries, but then they come together, "actually it's even better burnt".
Tell me you wouldn't watch at least 30 minutes of Riker failing to scramble eggs.
- I mean I would. But I think Riker is the kind of guy that makes breakfast the morning after, sans replicator - for that personal touch. So I think he'd have no trouble scrambling some eggs.
Starring Captain Pike? I'd watch.

Yes. It’s called Star Trek: Scouts.
The first two episodes are already available on youtube. From what I understand they’re very short, like 3 or 4 minutes each.
- "Energizing the romulan rubber ducky" is not something I expected to hear on a kid's show
- Trash. But still better than DSC

Imagine they looking other Star Trek series thinking they are family friendly and see The Naked Now episode.
