They did change him last minute from an insane, tortured, goblin hating, trigger happy goblin slayer to his current incarnation.
Trust me this Wyll is better. Would be funnier if he started as a Paladin, but the moment we learn about the pact he'd respec to Warlock lol.
Everyone in early access was more vicious, including Tav. One theory I saw was that everyone was Bhaalspawn, but they dialed that back for the final game. Not sure I believe that theory, but it exists.
And EA Wyll, from what I can see, was a wannabe hero who had to make a warlock pact just to be powerful enough to live out his hero fantasies without getting his arse kicked by goblins. That sounds WAY more interesting than what we got. And hating the creatures who took your eye is pretty justified.
"That sounds WAY more interesting than what we got"
Though I'm not keen on the concrete stuff I've seen from EA Wyll, I agree that it seems like a more interesting direction for him. I'm not averse to them changing direction for his character, but I wish they'd give the new Wyll something more to his character — some more internal conflict to make him feel deeper.
I don't know, to me everything I've heard about the Early Access versions of the companions sounds much better than what we ended up getting. The danger in wanting to please everyone and not wanting characters to be seen as abrasive or off putting is risking everyone feeling milquetoast instead.
But maybe you had to play it to understand why they were bad? I really should try to dig up some old footage.
Rejecting his romance is the funniest shit. He looks like a kicked puppy.
So does Gale though... I just wanted a trio with Gale and Katlach but nooooo Gales gotta know what he wants
On my next playthrough, I want to see if I can get Karlach to kill him.
On this playthrough, my character failed to pull Gale out of the portal. I really haven't missed him. I also let Shart kill Laezel. Don't regret that so far.
idk about romance, but he really grew on me
his comments of friendship to a resisting dark urge are among the greatest
For me, it's halsin. Don't think I used him in act 3 at all
I was pretty disappointed by how little there was to Halsin. I kept checking in with him at camp, and coming away disappointed. I get that he was a late addition as the character he is, but it's still disappointing
Wyll is the character equivalent of eating cardboard.
