It’s Not Just You. No One Wants Kids Anymore

Could change things if the dating scene wasn’t such a joke because of all these stupid dating apps. Amongst the political climate here.

I grew up in a big family where I did a ton of parenting without my consent (nor my own desire to do so) and therefore as an adult I am more than glad to have all my time, money, and space to myself. Children are work and often ungrateful, rude, pains in the ass.

Until last child is adopted, people shouldn't make any more children. And even if that happens, it's better to help existing children with your spare time and money, instead of creating new ones.

Can't afford them even if I did want them. Which I don't.

It is the height of cruelty to bring a child into a world that doesn't have a future.

As a short black man, I have experienced all levels imaginable of disrespect and trauma, so I don't think that I want to have to tell to my kid. "Yeah, I hated my life, but I am bringing you here to deal with all these crackers so maybe your generation can keep making things better."
Also, yeah, I don't have the money for them.

I can't imagine not wanting kids on the contrary. I guess I'm the minority. Feels like a wonderful privilege to be able to make a copy of yourself with someone you love.

Mine are grown up. I had fun being a single dad. Would I have more? Yes, of course!
But I have noticed a trend in people their age.
I think many be partially caused by a decline of support systems and family structures , and a collapse of person to person socialization.

The fewer people born now, the fewer people will be left without resources in the already beginning climate apocalypse.

I don't fault people who do have kids, but I don't think that declining birth rate is a problem. In my experience people who are concerned about that are usually racists who are concerned about their particular race declining in percentage of the global population.

- Social security programs are predicated on a large labor force providing for a smaller retired population.
  These programs don’t work if you have an inverted pyramid.
  It’s not just capitalism that’s threatened. Not the economic growth… but the entire concept of work and social programs. Socialism has these issues as well
- A fertility of 1.5 is a crisis for capitalism, but it's a manageable for society. Every class of school children is 75% of the previous generation.
  Fertility of 1 means each generation is half the size of the previous one. That's a challenge to maintaining civilization, not just profits. A Fertility of .7 every generation is 35% the size of the previous.
  I'm not saying we have to fuck to save the species, but the doomsayers are not entirely wrong. There will be challenges.
Capitalists too.
Capitalists want cheap labor, and the more people competing for jobs the cheaper the labor. When people stop being expendable suddenly union busting won't be a viable option anymore.

In my country, neopentecostal religions (those with TV preachers asking for money nonstop) have been steadily growing over the last 20 years. Most young people I know are into these cults, and they all want to have many children, they are also all on minimum wage, which barely covers the expenses for diapers alone.

...you know what? In recent years, we've also been ravaged by betting apps. I guess both work the same way, they both promise that if you keep putting money into them, you’re eventually going to get rich.

We don't need that much peoples in the earth
