There's no way he didn't have CTE, pretty much every pro would, especially back then.
The closest they can come to redeeming him would have been showing he wasn't always like this

For those who don’t know the context, many athletes, especially American Football players, have donated their brains to CTE research.
It actually seems like a good opportunity. A lot could be learned about brain damage.
And a lot has been learned because of those willing donors so far!
