I hope that you'll forgive me if I muck about on this topic. I did read some of your posts and I've noticed the same thing I did in your article. I am a long way from being able to explain what you were talking about when you said: "it's a bit like a big, heavy bag of shit that can easily be removed". I have been on my trip to the gym a couple of times in the past few weeks and I have made some of the same jokes. I am sorry that I took so much offence to your post. I am sure that you are in no way offended by any of it and you are only talking about the jokes I am making.

I am just sorry it took me so long to look into this. Oh, and a word on the way back. I have been in contact with a bunch of other writers who were in the same position as you are in now, and they are all quite in touch with each other too. I am actually in contact with one of them (whom you may have heard of!) who is an art dealer and has been writing for me for the past 4 or 5 years now. She sent me an email saying she had an old copy of a very old painting by Vincent van Gogh, and that it was a real shock to find out that someone had used it in a way that she would never normally have dared to do. She had read about this in The New Yorker , and then I found out about it from this forum post . She had been a bit miffed that her painting, called The Wound of a Woman , hadn't appeared on the cover of Vogue and said that she had looked at it myself and couldn't believe what she saw! The thing she had looked at was the picture of her brother, a long lost brother who died in the war in Korea. The painting had been a favourite of his. It was a painting by him. That is the only thing I can really remember of it, but the article on it does say that the painting was used in a way that you would never have dared to do. I'm not sure what to say, really.
