I know it's not quite the same, but Song of the Beast by Carol Berg is kinda like this. The book starts after the main character is released from a 20 year prison sentence and he's trying to find out why he was in there in the first place
Technically you still use weapons but you start with a 100% damage penalty and get points and experience for leaving as many monsters as possible alive
idc what anyone says, Blades in the Dark is not a PbtA game. It has like 2 things in common with PbtA systems
Also PbtA systems are great for a story focused games, but they're not exactly tactical and characters tend to be a little static. They focus on story pretty much to the exclusion of everything else. If you want story though go for it, they're great. I prefer more of a balance personally.
Worlds Without Number focuses on sandbox play and strikes a nice balance with story and combat. Stars Without Number is basically the Sci-fi version. Both are free with premium versions that have a bit of nice optional content, like more powerful options for heroic characters and Star Wars style space magic
Why would we change it though? We'd need to change way too much in order to do that. Just because the system started with fingers, doesn't mean fingers is where it is now
The Fertility and Health words can be surprisingly nasty in Godbound. Fertility comes with an end the bloodline ability and a cancer beam, and health comes with diseases and involuntary resurrection. Scary shit for such friendly sounding powers
I don't really mind the non-replacable batteries tbh. Water resistance is much harder when you need to design your phone with a removable battery.
I do want the SD card slots back though. I don't care about having two Sim cards, I want my enormous local storage that I can transfer in 8-10 seconds back
I was thinking more jokey. Not necessarily creepy, just weird. My plan was to make rules for all the weird meme spells like Greater Baja Blast
