I am salty as fuck about PT.

As a standalone entry it was absolutely fantastic, I loved every second of playing it. As a demo it got me so incredibly hyped about the full game.

And then Konami pulled some of the dumbest shit I have ever seen.

I had an iPhone flip out at one point and do the full screeching alarm cycle every 15 seconds or so for several minutes until I figured out how to turn it off.

Fun side story: I told my friends about it and how to turn it off, and one of them like berated me for being selfish because I didn’t want my phone screaming at me continuously for an alert I already knew about. That’s how I learned that guy was a shithead.

I’ve been using age recently with nix to store secrets across deploys and I’m pretty happy with it.

The deepfake puts it into murky waters for me.

If you have an actor who is obviously not the person represented saying a bunch of stupid and mean shit, I’ll defend your right to do it while also calling you a worthless piece of shit for thinking something so mean and petty is funny. This is basically the MadTV model and it has a right to exist for sure.

Deepfakes feel different. The ridiculous realism casts it in a light that feels a lot more like misinformation, which I do not believe is defensible, in the same way yelling fire in a crowded theater isn’t defensible.

I’m not saying it should be banned, but I guess I’m more open to like a serious and healthy debate over it.

I’m not an expert on it, I’ve only watched a few videos on it, but from what I’ve seen they add structural elements between the layers at certain points which act like rebar.

There’s no framing of the walls, but they do set up scaffolds to support overhangs (because you can’t print onto nothing)

I mean, “to 3d print a wall” is a massive, bordering on disingenuous, understatement of what’s happening there. They’re replacing all of the construction work of framing and finishing all of the walls of the house, interior and exterior, plus attaching them and insulating them, with a single step.

My point is if you want to make a good argument against LLMs, your metaphor should not have such an easy argument against it at the ready.

I worked Bay Area tech as a dev for several years; the thing they are really really good at is manipulating young people (mostly men, really) into thinking that if they aren’t living work then they are bad people. All of your free time should be spend thinking about work, building things for work, “leveling up” your skills to be better at work. Family and friends are not important, only work. The gaslighting and emotional manipulation is cult-like.

I once had the founder of the startup I was working for tell me that he had no idea I cared about the company after I gave a presentation on how we could pivot our product to be more effective. He then asked how he could get more of my time for the company. I was working 60-80 hour weeks already.

I’m an EM now and those experiences shaped how I run my team: work is work, not your life. You do your work so that you can afford to do the things you actually care about, and that is how it should be.

This is confirmation bias, you know it’s possible so you’re discounting downsides.

Yes, a connector can fit in the watch, but the internal footprint of the connector is comparatively huge. All the other components of the watch would need to be designed to fit around a large connector essentially directly in the middle of the device internals.

If that’s really important to you, more power to you. I don’t have an issue with it existing. I do have a bit of a problem with pretending that compromises aren’t being made in features to accommodate it.

A standardized magnetic pogo pin connector would meet my needs quite a bit better, personally.
