  • It’s not really “both” from a space simulator perspective. There’s no option to fly down to a planet and skim the surface, there’s no option to fly from planet to planet without a loading screen (or even just to a moon), etc.

Starfield is a good RPG set in space and I’m enjoying it, but I think it’s fair to criticize that it was marketed like it was going to be a space sim by Bethesda and that’s not really what we got. If you were excited about the simulator part you are going to be disappointed.

  • I don’t understand why one couple got $100,000, while the other couple got nothing. I wish the article had expanded on that a bit more.

  • Engineering manager here: I am very lucky to have my team, I need them more than they need me, and I think anyone saying otherwise is fooling themselves.

  • Oh yeah he totally would want me to keep on going, and I’m trying, but there’s just too much emotion there. It’s a show that I love because it’s a testament to what humanity could accomplish if we just got our shit together, and I’ve always felt emotionally attached to the show… it’s just too much right now.

    Eventually.

  • I’m jealous that you’re getting your first go through, that was a pretty magical experience.

I usually watch the whole series every couple of years, and I’m due for a watch now, but I can’t. Star Trek was something I shared with my dad, who died two years ago, and I just can’t seem to make myself watch it anymore.

  • Cloudflare is my go to registrar today, nothing but good experiences so far.

  • I’ll disagree with the above. I’ve been using flakes for over a year now for my projects and they are fantastic for both personal use and for distributing along with a public repository.

I’ve been able to dump both Docker and asdf-vm for flake files with direnv, and am very happy with the workflow.

  • Did you make sure to call the tech support line and give them all your money and your mother’s maiden name before the 42 second countdown finished?

  • Wasps don’t give a fuck about you; don’t walk up to their nests and slap them and you’ll be fine. They’re defensive creatures rather than aggressive.

They also serve as excellent pest control. I tend to just leave them be unless they build a nest near a door that would be problematic.

Hornets, on the other hand, are indeed aggressive and can indeed go fuck themselves.

  • All the support for this. I don’t even personally care much but I’ve seen this requested so many times.

  • The emacs wiki agrees and has the correct take on this: https://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/SmartTabs

It seems like this basic guideline, tabs to indent and spaces to align, solves the problem for everyone. It doesn’t matter what your tab width is, it’ll look “right” regardless.

  • I really appreciate the follow up on this, thanks for taking the time to look into it.

  • It is very literally depictions of children engaged in sexual acts, which fits the legal definition of CSAM where I live.

Blurring is done at the client level by applying a filter to the images so even with blurring on, the (illegal where I live) image is downloaded to my computer regardless of if I actually see it or not.

  • Honestly, I don’t really want to click into a bunch of CSAM communities to block them individually.

  • 30mph on a pedal bicycle is very very difficult to reach and maintain. Even on a road bike designed to go fast on pavement, breaking 20mph on a flat road requires you to be extremely fit and streamlined.

I don’t think this is in any way comparable to an ebike where anyone can jump on and break 20 with no issues.

Source: bicycle was my primary mode of transport for 5 years; rode about 20 miles a day, with an attached speedometer, on a fancy road bike.

  • Maruchan Ramen Chicken, Pack of 24, for $7.36 on Amazon. That’s literally $0.30/pack (or $0.10/oz). https://a.co/d/gr4Ft9F

Just throwing out there that ramen is indeed dirt cheap still.

  • I feel like the primary complaint here is that the parent commenters very much want to focus on the some that are the cause of the problem, rather than simply stating that men are problematic.

  • Poem is really really neat and I wish I could recommend it, but honestly I think the docs just aren’t good enough for a general recommendation. The demos in the repo are nice but are not a replacement for actual documentation and tutorials.

It will need a lot more community support to actually take off.
