  • It has 2 common definitions:

    1. Neo-liberal: a political approach that favors free-market capitalism, deregulation, and reduction in government spending
    2. Leftism in general.

You're almost never going to hear the right-wing use #1. Authoritarian communists will use #1 as a catch-all for modern capitalism.

  • Maryland! US state on the eastern seaboard near the capital, Washington, D.C.

  • None of that really matters. The people who can buy big trucks, generally, can afford to. Or at least with debt. Can't get a $100k car loan if you make minimum wage.

These are all small luxuries that people deserve to have (disagree about trucks, but that's just an example). Otherwise it's calling for austerity. Which is something we DON'T need. Not when we have billionaires. If the working class is being asked to tighten their belts, they should instead be looking to the rich who are hoarding the vast majority of wealth.

That being said, we really need to teach young people about finance. It's completely lacking from modern education: be design. People desperate from credit can't afford to quit their jobs for a chance at a better one, stand up to their boss, or risk their job by unionizing or demanding safe working conditions.

  • Advanced physics at the doctorate level probably until it became well established. Which would probably take decades unless it was particularly useful.

  • Mythbusters did this on their first episode: ice bullet. I think a sword might also be too brittle unfortunately.

  • I like that idea. If you do something illegal but minor the board has to give up a certain number of shares to the government. More for larger crimes. Do something bad enough: government nationalizes the whole company.

With enough small crimes the government gets significant influence in shares. I bet the billionaires would hate that.

  • This might sound good for people who own their home already but all it does is lock them in. You can't move, trade up/down if no one else can afford to buy.

And when prices are inflated they tend to reach a price cap. This means the variance between a small and large house shrinks. This means selling a big house to buy a smaller one nets you very little profit which encourages people not to sell. Which decreases the market of affordable homes.

But corporations with the goal of owning all property to rent seek don't care. They'll overpay to hold houses a while until they can corner the rent market and charge through the nose.

  • If you ever need buttermilk for baking and don't have it, add a little white vinegar to milk and wait a few minutes for a decent substitute.

  • Carbon dioxide dissolved in water creates some carbonic acid. Don't think they meant they added carbonic acid to water to carbonate drinks.

  • Also, don't call me honey. It's really degrading, id expect better from someone like you.

    Whoosh

  • Does it fall to the good guys, though? The ones who already don’t rape and stand up to their peers who have toxic ideas?

Yes, precisely. If the majority of men don't change the culture by standing up for women and against low-key misogyny that's everywhere then nothing will change and they aren't really "good guys".

And, really, are you reaching anyone who needs to hear it with rhetoric like this?

Dunno. But there's certainly a LOT of misogynists on Lemmy and I'm going to keep pushing back against them. They probably think they're feminists, too. Quoting bear statistics, saying "not all men", equivocating gender and race relations, telling women to "tone down" their complains so they don't alienate rapists and potential rapists.

Sure, not all men, but quite frankly I’m tired of having to be “one of the good ones”.

Lol, don't fret. With an attitude like that, you aren't.

    black people

We aren't talking about race, honey. If they think you can just swap labels you REALLY don't understand what's going on. No surprise.

  • If your bean juice is burnt, you made it wrong. Turn off the hot plate as soon as it's done brewing in traditional drip style. Primary cause of burnt coffee.

  • Guinness isn't that heavy for a stout. Monster will have a ton of sugar as well.

  • Orca meme culture is sinking yachts. They are taking Eat the Rich to a whole new level.

  • Same luck with tomatoes. Everything surey them long before the were ripe.

  • Exactly. Self sufficiency is definitely a myth. Humans cannot survive alone for long. You simply cannot make tools that will keep you alive for long. You'll have to venture back to civilization to get anything worked via metal at the very least. Just the basic crafts for clothing, shelter, tools and food is more than any one person can handle. It took whole tribes and villages even at the earliest points.

Now if you mean: how can I live in a cabin off the grid with minimal contact (1-2x a year) then that's doable.

  • P. S. A simple “could you elaborate on what you mean” might have come across better.

    "they"

Follow your own advice. Your language was needlessly loaded. I've seen plenty of comments like that that know exactly what they're doing.

  • Huh. I used reddit for about 12 years before switching to Lemmy last year and I don't think I ever noticed ETA. Maybe just different subs used it.

  • What exactly is this comment suggesting? It seems like a coward's way to call for violence using ambiguous but still incendiary language.
