What's your favourite game made for a handheld console?
  • I think the Zelda Oracle games were pretty rad. Easy games to play, and for the truly committed you had cross progression between the two games to complete quests across Seasons and Ages. The two games had completely different maps and dungeons to explore with different items in each. They were a dual release that weren't just the same maps with slightly reshuffled enemies like the Pokémon games were. I remember trading my copy of Seasons to my friend for his copy of Ages and then checking in with each other to see where we were and if either of us had discovered any secrets that we hadn't found in our respective playthrough.

Linkin Park reunites with 7 years after Chester Bennington's death, with new music
  • I saw the live performance of Somewhere I Belong, and the final verse when it goes "I will never be anything else until my wounds are healed" Chester delivers the line with such intensity and aggression. I was hoping to hear Emily match that. Instead she turned the microphone to the audience. It was the right move for a live performance, but how do I accept you when you can't prove that this band is somewhere you belong in that performance?

I think she has great potential, the new song definitely sounds like the direction that Linkin Park has been going, and I am excited to see where they go with Emily. But I will forever miss Chester.

Disney Seeking Dismissal of Raglan Road Death Lawsuit Because Victim Was Disney+ Subscriber
  • Shit, that's a bad look for Disney. The idea that someone could sign up for a 30-day trial to some product and completely lose their right to a jury trial for life against any and all companies associated with the parent company is absurd.

The attorney was right to describe that as preposterous. And if the court cedes and tosses the trial, it sets a chilling precedent against consumer rights.

Applied for a job and was asked to do a live interview. But all I get is this.
  • This probably one of those fake job postings I heard about.

I would be willing to bet that it is a Ghost Job. I sympathize with that struggle. I'm sure I have applied to a couple of those recently, too.

I found that many ghost jobs stay up for a while, so what I started doing to find leads was utilize search engine operators to find recent postings. Something like: (site:greenhouse.io | site:workday.com) after:2024-07-24 "system admin" That should find "system admin" jobs posted on workday and greenhouse, commonly used as internal job boards, posted in the last couple of days.

You could even add more job boards to the list by using site: between the parenthesis and separated with bars to expand your search. Or you could change the after statement to today to find very fresh jobs to try to find posts less than 24 hours old and be among the first applicants.

That trick (or maybe just my persistence with an overwhelming portion of luck, idk) managed to eventually get me something new, so I'm hopeful it wasn't a fluke and it can help someone else, too.

    Best of luck.

The only way we lose is if we stand divided.
  • "Blue MAGAs" "It's over. You lost"

This troll has no intention of having a meaningful discussion. He lives in a bizarre reality where voting against a rapist, dictator, and felon is the same as going full cock in hand for an authoritarian. Block him and move on.

"Blue MAGA" What fucking fascist circlejerk birthed that nonsense?

[C-SPAN] Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Introduce Articles of Impeachment against Justices Thomas and Alito (13:37)
  • the "do nothing congress" was miles better

This sentiment is wrong. Making some effort to correct course should be a bare minimum. Accepting the broken system as irreversibly corrupt and doing nothing about it is objectively worse than using the institutions as they are intended. Even if these impeachments go nowhere, let it excite voters to turn out.

If you show up and vote for the party that actually wants to accomplish something, here is an example of what can be done. If you want to see checks and balances in action, vote for the party that is willing to make it happen.

With all the talk of the corruption of the most powerful court in the country, here is what the process looks like to fix it.

Conversely, if you just want to lie down and allow the court to continue to tear down the other "co-equal" branches of government, and regress our rights in an overtly corrupt way, then go ahead and sit back down. Do what you seem to prefer our elected leaders do: Shut up and fuck off. Find another place to commiserate with other self defeated losers.

Tennessee Becomes the 2nd State to Enact an 'Abortion Trafficking' Law
  • Historically, that would be true, but this SCOTUS is wild. Standing doesn't mean much anymore. Take, for example, the recent ruling from the anti-lgbt web developer in the 303 Creative v Elenis decision. Smith had not started a business at the time the original suit was filed, and, after she had begun operating, shr did not have any requests to make such a wedding site as described in the suit. During an appeal, she provided a false request -- for a man already married to a woman -- as her standing. Her standing was obviously bullshit; she had none.

Not that it really helps. Our current SCOTUS will certainly not agree to hear a case that could actually benefit us and defend our civil rights. We should probably start fresh with a new SCOTUS if we want any of that.

How should I feel about a dying parent who's worthless?
  • My mom died a decade ago, and my dad about two years ago. Neither were great, and to a certain extent, their passing left a bit of relief that I was no longer responsible for them. However, with them gone, there is no longer a chance to fix those relationships. They are both dead and my relationship with them will forever have been shitty.

It is sad to think about those times when my dad would tell me he wanted to try to be a better parent, but I'm the end, he never followed through. I don't look back and think about how he doesn't have any more chances to fulfill those promises, I see it that he can no longer break that promise to me that he would try.

I know that my parents would not change, they would never take responsibility for how their choices hurt others, they would always continue with their selfish behaviors, and they would never be the parent that every child deserves. Some people can't be fixed.

I understand your feeling of relief.

Looks like this 404 Media report caught some attention, but it looks like Cox Media Group was lying about what they are/were able to do.

I also didn't want to sit through 40+ minutes of podcast, so I found a writeup on their site about a press release from Cox Media Group making some bold claims that they have since backtracked on.

Two newborn twins need a one-dose treatment that would save their lives: Zolgensma, a $2.1M drug. Insurance (also the mother's employer) cut coverage of the drug the day after they were born.
  • We have children who need help! Someone call in the "pro-life" conservatives! Don't worry, gang, we know those God-loving righteous people will come through to solve this. Surely, they will be stumbling over each other help. Nobody talks a bigger game of saving the kids.

NPR editor who alleged left-wing bias at network suspended
  • Same, bro. I wanted to know what they had to say, so I read a couple paragraphs of "I'm a liberal elite democrat, just like you" followed by "Trump did nothing wrong" and knew I had to stop. It is dishonest to look at the Mueller report and come to the conclusion that there was nothing worth investigating when Mueller explicitly said that he recommends charges against the then president -- specifically several counts of obstruction by him and his administration that effectively stonewalled the investigation about collusion with Russia.

If that's how they felt was the strongest opening argument, it reveals how weak that whole angle was. It certainly did reveal a bias, but not on the part of NPR, and it is certainly clear that this author deserves no more time or attention.

  • Hello friend. Vassal is actually not misspelled, and is a different word from vessel. In this context, the vassal of horror would be an emissary or owner of lands of horror.
