Thank you for continuing to share these updates! And a hearty congratulations to you and your partner, wishing you both a very happy married life!
Starfield. Still figuring out lots of things since not everything is intuitive. Also started playing It Takes Two with my SO who has never held a controller before. It's been an exercise in patience. On one hand I am happy that she willing to pick up a controller and play with me. I am sure it's as frustrating for her as it's for me. But damn is it tough to go so slow.
There are certain sites which terminate your sessions after a while. For example, banking sites or most government portals. In such situations, the auto fill function is very handy.
In my opinion this is not very intuitive. A drop down in the settings menu would be more obvious to users.
I am on Lemmy.zip and the admins are very transparent on the funding as they have set up an Open Collective page, and they are also very receptive to user suggestions and feedback.
Many of the lemmy apps that are still in development are not released on any of these stores.
Thank you once again for these rundowns! Congratulations on the 1 month anniversary!
I didn't know this was possible! Thanks for sharing, will give this a try.
I have most of the Android apps installed, but the two I keep switching between are Connect and Thunder. Both devs keep pushing out updates to the apps periodically and are very responsive to user feedback.
If people are clicking the link in the post above, it will not redirect them from within the same instance. Try this link instead - !thunder_nightly@lemmy.world
There are a lot of options for Lemmy, but beware they still need to mature a bit. The two apps I keep using the most are Thunder and Connect for Lemmy. Lots of users swear by Liftoff but I find the aesthetics a bit lacking for me. There's also Lemming which is the most barebones but has a great UI for something that has only had a couple of alpha releases. Most if not all of these are available to download from Github.
Cheers! Glad to have been able to contribute something meaningful!
@Demigodrick@lemmy.zip Thanks again for these rundowns! I am not a system administrator so not everything makes sense to me, but I find it really interesting and insightful to know about the different challenges that a site admin needs to do. If it's not too much effort, I would really enjoy seeing more of this posts!
Great idea on the external status page! I did run into an error 500 status when I assume the instance was being upgraded to 0.18, but the site seemed to be back pretty swiftly. Got two suggestions on this point:
-
Would it be possible to get a vanity URL for the status page if possible so that it's easier to remember and access? For eg:
status.lemmy.zip
orlemmy.zip/status
I am not sure if these examples are feasible as I am not very sure how TLDs work. -
How about some funny pages for our error 404 or 500 pages? We can also get the community on this instance involved to design a few and ask others to vote on it!
As for the funding, IMO you are perfectly entitled to reach out to the community since you have clearly mentioned that it's optional and not mandatory. I would recommend adding a link to the Open Collective website to the sidebar as well. I have not contributed yet, but I will in a month or two once my finances are in order.
Once again, thanks to you and @Sami@lemmy.zip for your efforts and glad to be a part of this instance!
I am one of the 369 (nice) who signed up. I was originally on beehaw but after they took the decision to defederate from a couple of other instances (for which in my opinion they gave a very well thought out reason), I wanted to have an account on another instance (blame it on my FOMO). I am not a very technical user but really enjoy reading well thought out posts like these, so really appreciate the write up! From the tone of the post, I think you are a very considerate and ethical person and am happy that I chose this instance! Jerboa allows multiuser switching so I can keep switching both my accounts. The app still crashes when clicking community links which should hopefully be fixed soon. I am still figuring out my way in the fediverse, and want to thank you for all you do for us! 🙂
