This isnt really true about beehaw though. Their mods actually have really good heads on their shoulders when it comes to policy and enforcement.

Their goal is to protect the general vibe of the place and their prime rule beyond of course not being a bigot is to "Be(e) Nice". Discussions are meant to be had in good faith and if someone is say spready hate speech and someone tells them to fuck off the mod will likely bad(and depending on what they said delete) the hater and probably do nothing to the person who told them to fuck off.

They will go after people who are arguing in bad faith, trolls, people who are being too aggro for no reason, and of course people getting into a fight who need to cool it.

Their more simplified ruleset is to combat what is often seen when you have the more reddit style strict rules. Where you wind up with users knowing just how to be a dickhead without actually breaking the rules and ruin the place. If a mod bans or deletes a post when the person isnt breaking a rule but stinking up the subreddit then the user causes drama towards the "abusive mod". So the mods then put in more and more rules until the subreddit becomes bland or hostile towards posters. In this example if someone posts hate speech and someone calmly just tells them to fuck off then both posters will have to be penalized for breaking rules.

The beehaw system allows for discretion. Ive also seen admins and mods on that site try and talk things out with posters who are causing a stink and giving them a good faith opportunity before showing them the door.

I was an asthmatic child. Still am as an adult but I sort of out grew it in my teens. It still pops up when Im sick, or when air quality dips, or if I get allergies, or its there but Im used to it and it's not as bad as when I was young.

As a kid though oh man I would frequently come down with colds and frequently have a clogged nose. It was not uncommon for me to breath through one nostril for a day, then it might shift later that evening and no amount of blowing or picking would save it. Then of course when I was sick which again was frequent I would be a mouth breather.

I still loudly sneeze through my mouth as an adult, not because I want to make a scene but because sneezing through my nose would hurt and lead to two snot trails flowing down my face.

Its funny now that I think about it I usually dont carry tissues with me but as a kid I always had a pack in my pocket because snot was an inevitability.

Not to dump on gen Xers but lets not give them too much woe(Note this is going to be more a US perspective). Yeah they grew up during(and were) the crime boom of the mid century that plagued American cities. Yeah they had the oil crisis and the dot com bubble. Yeah they were old enough to buy houses during the housing bubble bursting.

Lets not also forget they were born 1965-1980. They were the tail end of being able to work up a company, they were a gen that still came into an office to still turn in applications in person and all that dated cliche stuff an older family member tells you to do if your unemployed. Theyre the ones who got alright enough paying jobs doing things like data entry while complaining about it. Theyre the ones who were the right age during emerging tech industry to do things like take a quick community college network certification course and now are making six figures as head of IT department. Theyre the ones who picked up those high paying independent reporter jobs before print media started dying off when the getting was still good. They were the ones who were at prime earning and home buying age before the market became nationwide screwed. Yes the interest rate was higher, but that meant it wasnt as attractive of an investment or business opportunity which meant prices were lower.

But again it all depends who you are. The US went through some insane times in the mid century with urban decline thanks to sprawl and white flight, factories shutting down and de-industrialization, consolidation of banks and regional franchises and other businesses(leading to layoffs and in some cases the death of said merged company all together), and multiple collapses, the crack epidemic, aids and etc. And of course its not like gen xers or even boomers died once the elder millennials turned 18, they also experience covid, and the housing bubble crashing.

Yeah we shouldnt mirror reddit posts. If its not busy enough in a sub instance to foster news and discussion then it isnt busy. Growth should be organic.

A lot of chromebooks run linux pretty well since chromeOS is essentially just linux which is always an option.

Yeah millennials got over a decade of news headlines like "Millennials are killing X! Millennials dont like Y! MILLENNIALS MAKING FINANCIALLY POOR DECISIONS BY BUYING EXPENSIVE LATE'S AND AVOCADO TOAST!" . I think some of it is pandering "kids these days" clickbait but a lot of it is also disconnect from how things have changed as well as people not understanding how to read data.

The funny thing is the articles didnt stop they just realized that elder millennials are in their 40s and shifted to gen z.

A weird trend I noticed that targets us now is gen Z making fun of millennials. That makes sense they changed what IT is and millennials are no longer with it and some elder millennials may even be their parents. So like yeah young people making fun of the on the way out trends and fashion is par for the course and they arent part of the same generation block so they can just target millennials all at once now. The thing that gets me is Im noticing gen X-ers coming in to join the shitting on millennials and thats just uncool.
