  • Yes because even if Kamala would've won, even with a Democrat majority in congress, Republicans would've kept Republican'ing and Democrats have developed a habit of not doing anything to stop it because it wouldn't be civil or whatever the excuse of the week is.

  • I've heard Kaiser is pretty good. I had an employer suddenly switch all their plans to Kaiser, and we had to go individual because we had a few specialists we liked that didn't work for Kaiser. Plus i couldn't get a straight answer on what would happen if I got hurt outside of their areas.

  • I went to the ER in a wealthy part of the Denver metro with abdominal pain and a significant fever. I was in the waiting room for at least 8 hours for them to decide I might have a perforated bowel and I was admitted. It ended up being diverticulitis.

It makes my head explode when people say wait times are longer in countries with public systems because all the hypochondriacs will be abusing it. Motherfucker, wait times are ridiculous now.

  • And technical innovation has been stagnant ever since. Keeping most people, some of whom could be coming up with new ideas if they had time and resources to explore their passions, working dead end service jobs and exhausting themselves just to make ends meet so 12 people can have all the money is more important.

Yes I know the phone in my pocket is more powerful than the Apollo guidance computer by many orders of magnitude, but that's just iterating on an old concept. To me, innovation is jet engines for airplanes, or rockets capable of escaping earth orbit when nothing like it existed before.

  • It's an eternal work in progress, but the concept of neutral thinking really clicked for me. Look up "It Takes What It Takes" by Trevor Moawad. I'm still figuring out where to start on community, my social life peaked in high school never recovered. All the old civic organizations and churches seem to be dying off.

  • I wish I had learned this nuance earlier. I started out throwing all the money I could at whatever I was trying to pay off as fast as possible because I had it hammered into me as a child that all debt is a personal moral failing.

I've since learned that having cash on hand and a relatively low interest loan like a mortgage or a car loan, is better than a slightly lower balance on said loan and having to use a high interest credit card when an emergency inevitably pops up because I didn't have any cash.
