  • What is the result of subtracting the floating point number with hexadecimal representation 488299c6 from the one with hexadecimal representation 4cbe9a58?

Sooo... it turns out Bing Chat and Gemini can't do floating point math right now :D

And don't tell me the question is vague or misleading until the chatbots can actually recognize that or return an error code, this isn't exactly the sort of thing people are feeding into integration tests since they're indeterministic as heck and generally computed by some company losing tons of money somewhere off-site.

(Not sharing the result, because I still stubbornly refuse to spread AI output whatsoever)

  • What's he referring to when he says he's most famous for something about confronting radical feminists with his personal issues?

  • (PDF) The Role of Blockchain in 6G: Challenges, Opportunities, and Research Directions.

So this buzzword laden document was published by the IEEE. As far as I can tell it doesn't actually say much besides a breathless stream-of-consciousness about how blockchain and AI will make everything amazing and is terribly relevant to wireless communication protocols because reasons.

But... just read it. If you can make it to the end without your brain oozing out of your ears then you win the grand prize!

“Extreme edge”: 6G networks need to facilitate the spatial translation of many core services from the cloud to the edge networks for achieving extremely low latency communications and instant networks. The trustworthy coordination and transparent resource bookkeeping can be attained with blockchains in these systems [20].

In 4G, AI was not yet applied, while in 5G there is already a limited partial use. We expect a much deeper integration of AI on all levels of the 6G network communications with the ultimate goal to make our society super smart, super efficient and more green.

  • ponzi-money-spending.docx:

    1. A $35 million Bahamas penthouse office including private chef and pharmacist
    2. Celebrity TV ads and the FTX arena
    3. Private jets, real estate, luxury cars, and a yacht
    4. $100 million between both US political parties, other political donations (this story looks wild, haven't read it yet)
    5. VIP parties to rub shoulders with the rich, famous, and politically connected.
    6. Donations to various EA groups, as well as some guy writing questions for prediction markets
    7. Donations to museums, universities
    8. Unfortunately the $200k donation to Rajalakshmi Children Foundation never went through before FTX had a teensie liquidity issue.
    9. Gifts for his own family (how sweet :)

Overall the reporting on this is pretty scattered. I didn't find any one article that covered every knowable donation.

He certainly wasn't truly invested in criming for the good of the world (as long as you don't count ponzi victims as part of the world); because if he was he'd have run a much tighter ship.

He cultivated an image of scruffy philanthropist uninterested in worldly things, and for some reason the media ate this up. Meanwhile he was making conscious decisions to keep his criminal enterprise going as long as possible so he could keep living a life of nerdy luxury before it all came crashing down.

  • I mean maybe if their serious beliefs weren't all so absurd I'd have an easier time distinguishing those from satire absurd beliefs 🤷‍♀️

  • This starts out 100% indistinguishable from an April Fools post to the point where I had to check the archive date.

Actually looking back is maybe is satire in that annoying half-serious way (check out the nonsense hyperlinks destinations where the "humor" is a bit more obvious)

Also was I just shamed by someone who was in the environmentally horrifying bitcoin industry for keeping dry milk in my cupboard? No thank you.

  • "SBF died for our sins". "Archangel LTD".

Oh my what a humble and altruistic boy genius.

  • Reporter: "Uhmm it seems like y'all flirt with racism an awful lot tbh."

Zach: "And that's actually my position."

  • Also can we talk about the pear image on their job posting?

There's something unsettling about it that I can't quite put my finger on. Actually all the images. Like the weird outer space bubble office one where the pears ended up looking like Dragon Quest slimes or something?

Also also: do not put important information about your job posting inside of a PNG image with no alt tag. Unless you want to drive away blind appli-- ohhhhhh.

  • "How was your day sweetie?"

"Oh nothing much I just positioned myself at the forefront of innovation while seamlessly integrating solutions into market-driven products. Then I leveraged technology to address real world challenges while actively engaging with the broader community via ecosystem contributions by utilizing top tier talent to advance the field with these innovated products. Cutting edge technology domains to revolutionize every facet of our privacy being basically --no big deal"

  • Oh great the newest use case for chatbots: pestering experts

  • You say that as if just anyone could end up serving on the board of Google health. I'm sure they have a rigorous vetting process to ensure that only thoughtful and experienced health and technology professionals are on tha-- naaah I'm just messing with you, I bet you just need the right connections.

  • Someone on discord linked me to this AI generated horror-show of a "childrens" video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nywBUSaHFgY (I hesitate to give them any more views, Internet Archive says youtube vids take a few days to process though)

Which appears to be a channel of entirely AI generated video paired to children's songs. And it is gosh darn creepy and gross and exploitive and unhealthy.

I hope youtube cracks down on shit like this.

  • TL;DR: "I'm no longer a white nationalist because a lot of white people are cucked. Now my new identity is with sufficiently pilled white people. This is much more pragmatic. Also I would totally have a cool black friend if any actually existed which means I'm totally not racist."

Also: did anyone else feel a chill reading about a literal nazi talking about how society accepts him now? America used to despise nazis and now they feel like they can walk around openly. It's terrifying.

  • Who needs things like "experiments" and "data"? Surely a chatbot superintelligence can extrapolate all of physics from two frames of a video of an apple falling.

  • This is the ideal male body. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.

  • I know what you're thinking.

You're thinking Saturn, that could have been a post!

I know I know, but I can't handle that kind of pressure. If someone else wants to make a post about this, or prediction markets, don't let me stop you. It's an under-sneered area at the intersection of tech weirdos, that other kind of tech weirdoes, and that third kind of tech weirdos.

  • So today I learned there are people who call themselves superforcasters®. Neat!

The superforecasters® have had a melding of the minds and determined that covid-19 was 75% likely to not be a lab leak. Nifty! This is useless to me!

Looking at the website of these people with good enough judgement to call themselves "Good Judgement", you can learn that 100% of superforecasters® agree that there will be less than 100 deaths from H5N1 this year. I don't know much about H5N1 but I guess that makes sense given that it's been around since 1996 and would need a mutation to be contagious among humans.

I found one of the superforecaster®-trainee discussion topics where they reveal some of the secrets to their (super)forecasting(®)-trainee instincts

I have used "Copilot" LLM AI to point me in the right direction. And to the point of the LLM they have been trained not to give a response about conflict as they say they are trying to permote peace instead of war using the LLM.

    Riveting!

Let's go next to find out how to give up our individuality and become a certified superforecaster® hive brain.

To minimize the chance that outstanding accuracy resulted from luck rather than skill, we limited eligibility for GJP superforecaster status to those forecasters who participated in at least 50 forecasting questions during a tournament “season.”

Fans of certain shonen anime may recognize this technique as Kodoku -- a deadly poison created by putting a bunch of insects in a jar until only one remains:

100 species of insects were collected, the larger ones were snakes, the smaller ones were lice, Place them inside, let them eat each other, and keep what is left of the last species. If it is a snake, it is a serpent, if it is a louse, it is a louse. Do this and kill a person.

"But what's the catch Saturn"? I can hear you say. "Surely this is somehow a grift nerds find or a way to fleece money out of governments".

Nonono you've got the completely wrong idea. Good Judgement offers a 100$ Superforecasting Fundamentals course out of the goodness of their heart I'm sure! I mean after all if they spread Superforecasting to the world then their Hari-Seldon-Esque hivemind would lose it's competitive edge so they must not be profit motivated.

Anyway if you work for the UK they want to hear from you:

If you are a UK government entity interested in our services, contact us today.

Maybe they have superforecasted the fall of the british empire.

And to end this, because I can never resist web design sneer.

Dear programmers: if you apply the CSS word-break: break-all; to the string "Privacy Policy" it may end up rendered as "Prnewlineivacy Policy" which unfortunately looks pretty unprofessional :(

  • There are a few bitcoiners out there who try to claim, with a straight face, that more bitcoin mining = more greener.

As far as I can tell the argument basically boils down to "we'll just use SO MUCH electricity that the utility will have no choice but to invest in green energy just to keep up" -- but honestly I can't make heads or tails of it.
