  • Are you talking about when the executive function is completely offline? Because if that’s hitting hard and I’m going “I’m hungry but I can’t make anything” my go to is a quesadilla.
Seriously if I can stand and heat a frying pan, it becomes easygoing to warm up some tortillas in the fry pan and throw some cheese between them. Bingo bango bongo you’ve got a Mexican cheese sandwich.
And then as I’m eating the first one I can be making a second and maybe throw in some ham or some salami, or better yet some leftover taco meat. All of a sudden I’m not so hungry and I’m happier having eaten something and maybe I can be motivated to eat some veggies or fruit.

  • Yeah and I had some problems with the concept at first. Everyone was selling it as the hard science fiction show and yet it focused the proto molecule and that’s not hard science fiction. Plus I got annoyed with them spending so much time on the float but using mag-boots but not looking like they’re still in zero G. I know you can’t shoot the show on the vomit comet but really just spend more time under thrust, I’ll be happier.

  • I agree about how good The Expanse books are, but I’m on the other side of coin about the tv series. I had a hard time getting into the series the first time I tried to watch it. I don’t think I quite what they were doing at first but now having read the first four books I started rewatching the first season and it totally clicked this time I’m tearing through the TV series this time.

  • Stovetop gives a great explanation of the mechanics so I’ll just add about the vibes. Spiritfarer is sweet and kind at its heart. The main interface of the game is giving hugs and cooking the favourite foods of your passengers. You explore both physically in your boat and in the lives of your friends, and hopefully you come to understand a little bit about life and death. And patience too, sometimes you’re not really stuck you’re just not ready yet.

  • God … Spiritfarer. What an amazing experience. I didn’t cry but quite a few times I had to put down the controller and just stare out the window. It’s not sad but it is so sad. It’s so wistful and god just loved that game.

  • Honestly, if you’re not in to the ‘cinematic’ writing style that the writers use that doesn’t change.
I personally like the imagery. I can see the Rosi and most of the people in it, in my head. They remind me of JK Rowling in that way., but your mileage way vary.
The second book is very much a redo of the first but better. Less tropey and the women are much better written. Chrisjen is such a great character.
The plots get changed up in three and four which is good so you might like them more but I can understand it’s no for everyone.

  • Yeah but I find most authors 4th or so books start need better editorship. I think it's more of an industry / ego problem. Once an author get to a certain level of notoriety they get editors who don't feel comfortable tell them to tighten up their work. A lot of authors figure it out around the 5th to 7th book though so sometime I just slog through I guess.

  • I’ve finally gotten around to The Expanse series and I’m about a third of the way into Cibola Burn, the 3rd book.
I really enjoyed the first two and I’m liking this one but it’s starting a bit slower then the other and I find the tension ratcheting up different not worse but different.

  • Showerthoughts @lemmy.world

I can't believe nobody in the LA protests hasn't already started a big sing along of "Do You Hear the People Sing?" Yet.
