  • did ZIRP seriously rot some people's brains out? Who can believe that playing a video game could have a financial incentive (that's not something like grinding currency in a 100k player mmo)? This is so mind-numbingly asinine that I can't even come up with a sarcastic remark.

  • It's a narrative whose connection with reality is hard to discern

If only there were email communications that all but prove the allegations.

One could instead say enshittification is an emergent and often unstoppable force, carried out by whoever happens to be in place at the time.

Yeah sure, and you can keep pissing into the ocean while you're at it while real people try to fix the problems they perceive.

All roads tend to lead to the same place.

Hopefully that's a place where no one has to read bizarrely dismissive drive-by comments made by people who have No Fucking Clue about what they're talking about and lack any kind of intellectual spine.

  • I mean sure? Swapping the pointers recursively is also fine. It's a question meant to see if the interviewee can talk about data structures or code, not to come up with a perfectly optimal working solution. Having a lengthy discussion about what "inversion" of a binary tree even means would even be totally fine imo.

I've interviewed a fair number of candidates and I ask them a very simple question with a bunch of edge cases and grade them based on how they talk about it, not the final solution.

I get the feeling that Max got frustrated and wasn't able to coherently speak about the problem, or the interviewer was dumb as rocks. I think both are equally likely.

  • how are all of the AI girlfriend services doing? The last time it hit the news, one service ("replica" or something silly like that?) cut off the lewdness which angered users greatly. Are there new players in this space?

  • I'm sure Paulie G understands the necessity of regulators in a market which has real world consequences and is just being disingenuous here. If he actually believes the things he said i wouldn't care much, but he clearly knows what he's doing (as evidenced by replies). Fucking scum.

  • I'm working on a single user node that can talk to Lemmy and mastodon. The idea of having my own homegrown "ship" (stealing that from urbit, sorry guys) for interacting with the fediverse is tantalizing for me. Progress so far, however, has been minimal.

  • The "Understanding activitypub" blog posts link to a test instance of mastodon that has an activitypub explorer. You can point it at your own servers to see what happens. This has been immensely useful for me.
