Seattle Police locked down the grocery store and the corner of 15th and John after a reported exchange of gunfire at the Capitol Hill Safeway early Sunday evening.
No victims were found at the scene.
25 minutes later, a 911 caller reported a male with a gunshot wound to the leg at 12th and Fir.
Police were called to the reported 15th and John shootout just after 5 PM as people in the parking lot and customers inside the store scrambled for cover.
SPD taped off a large area around the parking lot and Williams Place Park where they reported finding multiple shell casings and at least one unspent round.
According to East Precinct radio updates, the shootout involved at least two armed assailants with one reportedly fleeing northbound on a rental scooter.
About 25 minutes after the Safeway call, police were called to 12th and Fir where a male was reported with a gunshot wound to the leg.
Seattle Fire was at the scene to treat the victim and transport him to the hospital.
It was not immediately clear if the incidents were separate shootings though at least one 911 caller described a group of possible suspects leaving the 12th and Fir scene.
There were no reported arrests.
According to a radio update, Seattle Police were investigating the possibility a Glock handgun reported stolen earlier in the day was used in the Capitol Hill shooting.

The Washington State Transportation Commission (WSTC) has adopted new toll rates for the SR 520 Bridge.
Beginning August 15, 2024, toll rates will increase by an average of 10 percent, rounded to the nearest nickel. Depending on the time of day and day of week, tolls will either decrease by 10 cents or increase by up to 70 cents. In addition, the new rate schedule will feature six rate variations throughout the week instead of the current eight.
Please see the table below for a breakdown of the changes:
Weekday rate changes \(Monday-Friday\)
Weekend rate changes \(Saturday & Sunday\)
State law mandates that tolls generate sufficient revenue to meet the bridge’s financial obligations, such as operations and on-going maintenance costs, and repaying construction bonds used to build the bridge. Tolls are also required to be set in a manner that helps maintain travel time, speed, and reliability in the corridor. These rate adjustments aim to streamline the toll structure while ensuring toll revenue meets the bridge’s financial requirements.
For more information about the new toll rates and schedules please visit our website.

The council’s last-minute maneuver prevents the measure from going onto the ballot in November, when progressive voter turnout is likely to be high. - • 58%www.newsweek.com Map reveals smartest cities in the US
Seattle has been crowned the smartest city in the United States, but what factors determined this?
Anyone else hear these jets? They're zipping, and how.
E: Blue Angels doing some practice.
Around 6pm US Pacific today (July 30 2024), The Needling published the following post, but pulled it offline sometime before 11:15pm that same evening.
The url was https://theneedling.com/2024/07/30/texts-reveal-mayor-harrells-kink-for-dressing-as-dog-sitting-in-rich-peoples-laps/ but now goes to an error page.
The article text is below.
——
Texts obtained through a public records request by The Needling confirm suspicions that Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell has in fact spent the majority of his on-the-clock time in public office indulging a kink for dressing up like a dog and sitting in rich people’s laps.
“Up until now, we thought this idea that Mayor Harrell is super cozy with the richest people in town was more of a figure of speech, but we now know through texts he knew very well were public record that he spends much of his work time dressed as a leashed, furry pup going door to door in the city’s wealthiest neighborhoods,” said senior Needling investigative reporter Joey Tyler. “Now there’s nothing wrong with pup play–but on the job engaging in mansion backroom deals as a public servant? Some of these texts are graphic, so let’s just say he also likes getting on his knees and getting a really good sniff in there when he greets them.”
The interactions were confirmed by Stuart Sloan, the rich man and owner of U Village with whom Harrell “shared disgust” regarding Denny Blaine’s queer nude beach—enough to attempt ruining it with a privately funded children’s playground last year.
“While I am disgusted by human nudity at Denny Blaine Park, I do get off on mayors who want to wag their tails and lick my face when I need their attention,” said Sloan. “Bruce is such a good lap dog: He always comes when called. Just last night, he came over to my Lake Washington mansion, laid his floppy-eared head in my lap while I smoked $100 cigars and drank the last bottle of the most expensive wine on the planet. I told him exactly how I wanted this city run, and he agreed to every single request. Going forward, nudity will not only be banned in public parks but also inside your home.”
At press time, the city was hopeful Harrell would tie himself a little less to the demands of the rich when he was spotted playing fetch with Mr. Sloan in Cal Anderson Park’s unofficial off-leash dog area.
