What we really mean
IMHO, it's a horrible hack that is just broken. It's obscure and we need to rewrite it because it has a bad structure. XCquit[ESC][ESC]C
The best way I know to quit vi is by turning off your computer
48ReplyWhy would you quit vim?
32ReplyTo open nano of course
12ReplyBecause you meant to open ed: the standard text editor.
10ReplyI wanted to open neovim of course. And my alias did not work
3ReplyBecause you've finished configuring the evil package, obviously.
2Reply
you can also accomplish that by turning off city's electrical grid
12ReplyTakes too long for the UPS to run down...
7Replyi see you're operating at datacenter scale
2Reply
This is the way.

I'm one of those people who think that Perl is a write-only language
-Linus torvalds 38Reply"I can read this Perl scrip"t should translate to "I'm lying".
35ReplyESC +
:q!
ESC to enter normal mode (if you're in a different mode like insert) : (colon) to enter commands q to quit ! (or a) to use the quit command withiut keeping any changes
28ReplyHe's speaking the language of the gods..
21ReplyESC + (shift) ZZ is faster and also saves your changes!
4Replygood to know :3

I'm basically a god at work cause I knew this already, but never explained the pain I went through to get here.

The first phrase spoken when opening a new project, be it yours or someone elses... "What the fuck..."
21ReplyWhat fucking idiot wrote this? Looking at your own code from 6 months ago
7Reply
I can't read this perl script may also apply to something you wrote last week.
19ReplyI'm absolutely guilty of self-documenting code, but mostly because I'm sick of everyone else's lying comments.
15Reply"The reason I use Perl is because I wanna write scripts that no one can read and no one can understand so that I can keep my job"
13ReplyIMHO it's a complex, temporary work around with a few issues.
Also vim > emacs
11Replyi use nano and i will die on this hill
8ReplyNano is the only one I know how to use lol (assuming we're talking about in-terminal text editors)
And i have used it exclusively for editing Minecraft and KSP server config files
Im definitely a programmer :P

Hey, now. It is possible to write readable Perl code—it's just less interesting that way. 😜
9ReplySelf documenting: my code doesn't NEED comments
8ReplyLGTM
7ReplySometimes I like to pack the most functionality into a single, hard to read one-liner, just for fun. In review I’ll admit “it’s a little bit abstruse”.
5ReplyThe Perl one has got me:)
5ReplyOf course, the correct way to quit Vi is
^Zpkill vi
. 3ReplyLol I've done this before!
1Reply
Good reference with lots of truth. Maybe, I should print it before having a meeting with other tech teams.
2ReplyEmacs babyyyy
2ReplyI've been seeing a lot of Perl jokes lately and as far as legacy code I haven't had to edit anything written in that in 25 or so years. For those that haven't used it, getting form variables and rudimentary things like that were like equivalent to regular expressions, everything had some obscure expression you had to look up or copy paste.
