We thankfully have not yet reached that Reddit-esque phase where clicking NSFW in the All feed has a 50% chance of being porn and a 50% chance of being a gruesome mauling or gory death in an industrial accident.
I had to block so much yiff when I first joined Lemmy. I knew it was out there, but I didn't realize just how much until Lemmy. Maybe I blocked it gradually over time at Reddit and didn't realize how much it was in total, but I felt like there wasn't as much there.
I try not to judge their journey, but I have no need to join them on it.
There should be like at least 4 tags imo. One for hardcore sexual stuff, one for mild erotic stuff, one for general violence and general "mild" gore, and one for really disgusting NSFL shit.
Unless someone on your instance subscribes to a bunch of NSFW communities (typically from lemmynsfw.com), then none of them will federate with your instance and consequently won't be seen. You can test this by subscribing to one of them and then monitor your All feed afterwards. You should see them pop up at that point.
Yeah, and I don't subscribe to Ukraine comms mostly for that reason. A quick check of the comm name on a NSFW post makes it pretty easy to filter though
When I first joined, and even now every once in a while, I'll see claims that the front page when sorting by All is full of furry porn.
I am literally on an instance made for furry porn and I never fucking see any. Where are y'all finding furry porn communities that are active on Lemmy?
Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn't work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: !yiff@lemmy.smeargle.fans
Same. Every now and then some furry shit from an obscure community will slip into my feed though. I've just been chiseling away at those communities. I don't mind NSFW, I just don't want porn on my main feed.
Depends. This main account is on an instance that defederates instances for that stuff, but when using my alt on .world for example I barely have to scroll for a nsfw post to appear.
In my experience, usually it is not. I have mine not blur because I like to live dangerously, but it's usually naked women. You do see the occasionally penis, but that's just the cost of doing business.
Most content on lemmynsfw.com is female related nudity, and even then someone on your instance has to actually subscribed to one or more communities there for their threads to federate with your instance and show up there. So unless someone on lemmy.world specifically subs to dick related communities (which I don't know how active they are) the chances are rather low. And of course, not all 18+ marked content is strictly porn. But I think the majority right now are probably Ukraine related videos.
Wait, people hide NSFW content? I don't care if people see it since I have posts set to have thumbnails, so nobody should reasonably be able to make it out anyway.
Well, since I will also browse Lemmy quite literally "at Work" it makes sense to check the Profile option that blurs the Not Suitable For Work stuff even if having the Show NSFW content also ticked.
Explicitly going back and forth changing the option depending on where you're accessing Lemmy from is a recipe for mistakes, at best embarassing but, depending on where one works, which can go all the way up to being fired for cause.
I guess I would on a mobile app but definitely not at home since I'm the only one with access to my desktop anyway. Generally not a fan of blurred thumbnails. If there's particular content I don't like then I just block it individually.

That's exactly what I did the first time I accidentally clicked on a post from one of those dick pic communities. Immediate block. Same thing when I came across a spider community.
