this seems like a really odd choice. admittedly the old name wasn't great, it sounded like spreadsheet software.
but they've gone from a name that was the top search result to one that will never be, because the current top search result for "firefish" is a recruitment company that can put a lot more money into seo than they can; and a name that most people who would use it (techies & early adopters) will immediately assume is a firefox fork or mozilla product
in isolation it's not a bad name, and i really like the new logo; but it just seems like a poor choice
I agree with everything you said. I do hope if they see all the lukewarm/negative feedback and decide to rebrand again that they stick with the fish theme and icon. It's cute and I like that all the microblog platforms have animals associated with them. Bird, Elephant, and now Fish. Elephant and Fish can be friends, Bird can fuck off.
Yeeeah... It's crazy how many quality of life features Misskey and Firefish have over Mastodon. I'm thinking about making the switch myself despite the big difference in UI.
Absolutely! The ability to have a file drive with all the pictures you've posted, the concept of "antennas", and the ability to seriously customize the interface are very welcome in comparison with flat Mastodon. My only pet peeves are that it still doesn't play fine with Lemmy or PeerTube feeds.
They're separate. Misskey is working to have post edits featured. Foundkey is on limited maintenance, which means that remaining Foundkey instances will start transitioning to Firefish anytime when Foundkey dev gives up developing the project.
I don't know how I feel about the new name, but I'm curious to see what new features come with the rebranding.
Calckey/Firefish is by far my favourite microblogging platform. It has a greater number of features than mastodon, and I personally find it more inviting.
What I wanna know is, with it being its own thing now (rather than a fork of misskey), while it still be supported by Misskey apps, like MilkTea?
