Funny meme but I think people( and DnD) fail to realize how dangerous a sling is. Just a regular one can cave in metal, let alone human bone.
30ReplyPlus it didn’t kill Goliath but stunned him. David then cut his head off.
So, you know, those who fall by the sling die by the sword
13ReplyI mean dnd also puts literal daggers at 1d4. Combat systems in general fall apart if you consider reality too much. Like I killed a bunch of monsters so now I hit better makes sense. I killed a bunch of monsters so now I have more health doesn't.
11ReplyI rationalize it as "You took some blows so now you have a better pain tolerance".

Slings and whips where my earliest disappointments playing D&D. 1d4!? Really?
7ReplyMost weapons can kill in one hit IRL if used right. In D&D, 1d4 is both the damage of a sling shot bullet and the HP of a commoner.
6ReplyA commoner has 1d8 hitpoints. In 3.5 their hit die was d4, but it wasn't clear how many levels the average commoner had.

History? Isn't David vs Goliath a biblical story?
19ReplyThis is a Facebook meme
11ReplyIt's a demotivational poster, way older than Facebook. It belongs in a museum!

Naw…
I’m pretty sure, as far as we’re aware, that the meteor that caused the K–Pg Extinction Event was the first Nat. 20. (Taking out Goliath has nothing on taking out most of life on Earth, including the dinosaurs…)
6ReplyActually, I think that’s a misconception.
I think it was more “staying out of melee” than “Nat 20”.
Would have still looked legendary to the people though.
Goliath was the one who would have hardly stood a chance.
6Replythe garden of eden was the first nat 1 arcana check
4ReplyIs Abel a joke to you?
2ReplyThat was first teamkill
