This seems to not be based on safety at all and is probably Mapps and Williams spending money PBOT doesn't have because of complaints by business owners that are not based on data.

Nah man, the people are awesome, they make it fun, friendly, interesting, and sometime crazy. Cars though. Everytime I'm waiting for a midtown bus (NYC) and traffic fills the whole block, all I can think is that all of those people would fit on the bus I'm waiting for.
If we banned, or heavily taxed every car that wasn't a taxi/rideshare or work/delivery vehicle, it'd run like clockwork. Why do we let the 45% (greater NYC) ruin it for the the 55% that don't have cars.
Goddamnit, Portland. I'm so glad I chose not to move there. I live in Salem instead, where the insanity is at least a little more removed from every day life.
