- IMO the Twitter name and logo together are brilliant. I guess most languages have sayings about birds singing, as a way to receive information. Basically what Twitter is supposed to be all about. The ONE thing that 100% isn't wrong about Twitter, is the logo and name. Killing that makes no sense.
  Musk may think he can fix the image problems he created with a campaign and a new logo. But he can't because the image problems are all about the things Musk has done, and have very little to do with what Twitter used to be. A new name will only enforce the belief that what Twitter used to be has gone, and will most probably accelerate the downward spiral.
  Maybe Musk likes the letter X for the meaning, because his exes were all better than the next?
  
  Musk thinks the "image problem" is any credibility that's left over from before he was hired to destroy it. This is all intentional. Anyone denying that at this point is just naive.
  
  He has been hounding x.com since before the paypal days. This is him finally having his toy.

- While I share your sentiment completely, I have a bad feeling that this is the beginning of something bigger. AFAIK the Twitter purchase was Musk’s first venture into building an everything app, and he already owns x.com. I think this is one of the first steps.

So he wants to built WeChat for US, but everyone here will either be on WhatsApp or iMessage, and good luck moving people from either of those platforms, it’ll never happen. Especially given his continuously worsening reputation.
- He lacks the understanding on how WeChat was able to get were it is. Ignoring any Chinese government help they were the default chat app for China therefore on every phone and were in a market without strong electronic payment system. All the other services that WeChat has come from the success of chat and payments.
  North America and Europe for better or worse have had credit cards as the standard for electronic payments for decades now. North America uses SMS/iMessage as the default chat service and Europe uses WhatsApp. Twitter is used less than Facebook messager in both ot those markets.
  
  There's no way any company can get the kind of traction WeChat has in China. Apple might come close if they release iMessage across platforms but that will probably never happen in (unless the EU passes some new laws to force it).

- He's stealing the X logo, not the X.Org logo. The X.Org logo consists of the X logo with a superimposed "O".
  X came way before X.Org. X.Org is just a 21^st century implementation of X.

- Yeah, Elon has this idea that he can make WeChat but for places outside of China. An app you're effectively required to have as a means of communication, identification, payment, and whatever else, and he wants to call it "X."

Free press - this is a 'New Coke' moment for Twitter. They'll announce a new name and logo, then roll it back after the outcry they expect. However, the elon boot-lickers will 'love the name' and everyone else will think it's funny in a schadenfreude kind of way. So it will be super transparent.
I suspect they'll ultimately make twitter a subsidiary of a company called 'X'. (Elon has access to x.com, and has probably wanted to use it for a while.)
- Twitter's legal name is already X. It was changed months ago with official announcement. Someone tried to sue Twitter, which is how we found out.
