Help removing 2u from plank
Hi everyone, I have a plank (v6 I think), and I kinda regretted having the 2u key instead of 2x1u (although I love it aesthetically, I would rather have two keys) Here comes the issue, the stabilizer is board mounted, so I can't just desolder the switch and take it out, but I would have to desolder everything to remove the plate. That sounds like a mess, so I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to get around it. Maybe trying to cut the stabilizer and pull it out without destroying the board? 😅
So, the issue is that if you desolder and remove the switch, then take a pair of fine wirecutters and... disassemble the plastic stabilizer housings, you'd still have a small screw from each stuck in the pcb?
I'd try first try unscrewing the screws with the wirecutters or some small pliers, grabbing and turning from the side.
0There's no screws, just that the stabilizer is held between the board and the plate. I guess that trying to break/cut it would be the way to go, but I was hoping someone with experience could tell me if its a terrible idea :P
0Yeah, sorry, I don't have experience with exactly that, but if you're sure that getting that out of there will allow you to place two switches instead -- and that they'll work (did you try closing their circuits and see that you get what you want?) -- then personally, I'd just go for it. Carefully, taking time, controlled cuts, minimal forceful twisting, pulling, and turning, etc. It seems like you have nicely much "elbow room" to work.
