[Feature request] Hide total karma count on user profiles

A setting to hide the total karma count on user profiles (including your own) would be nice to have. I don't really care to see that stuff myself, and karma doesn't even mean anything on Lemmy either way. Thanks.

  • Why? Just do not open profiles? And even if you do, why not just ignore the counter? I do not see any benefit in this function.

    • Conversely, I don’t see any downside to it. If it's added and you don't like it, then just don't use the setting. It doesn't affect you. Other lemmy apps have this setting and anyone who wants to use it uses it. No real reason for it not to be added.

      I prefer not to see karma scores, not on my profile or any other. Karma ruined reddit for me with the karma rat race that caused so many low effort posts and comments. And no, I'm not going to just never go to user profiles on account of this. If profiles weren't meant to be accessible, then they wouldn't be publicly visible at all.

      • If there's no real upside and no real downside, there's no point adding it. Why would the developer spend time on a feature that provides nearly no value when there are more pressing things to spend time on like bugs or major features?
