Google Search has a new button at the bottom of the search results that shows you if the results are personalized or not and a way to turn off personalization.
This change makes Google suck a tiny bit less by empowering users to disable some of the surveillance driven adtech in search results.
Is it a meaningful improvement in how Google operates at scale? No, not really. The DOJ is advocating the complete breakup of Google, the divestiture of Android and Chrome as well as reining in Google's AI training data scraping - turning off personalization more easily doesn't even register on that scale. If anything this tiny change is part of a campaign to appear to be changing corporate behavior while Google waits for the incoming administration to ignore current DOJ findings.
