What's the difference between "Remove ads" and "Sync Ultra"?
I'm loving Sync so far. I used the official reddit app ever since I was on Reddit. I sure was missing out.
I saw on the left bar there's two options "Remove ads" and "Sync Ultra". What's the difference? I understand ultra is a subscription that gets ad free browsing and more. However, remove ads looks to be a single purchase "add-on", i.e. no subscription. Is that the case? That would be nice down the line when sync for lemmy gets an official stable release.
There's also a price difference. Ultra is 1.99$/mo or 16.99$/yr, and remove ads is 12.99$.
Remove ads is 22 euros here. That's a massive difference from the old app. Almost ten times more I believe?

A bit of a surprise; I know I was lucky to get the old Sync pro app for under $2 a decade ago, but wow.
28Lemmy still has a lot less users than reddit. The dev can't rely on tens of thousands of users to buy the app for $1 each. I think he's doing a great job with this app and I don't mind supporting him.
Also, the addition of Sync to the lemmy ecosystem will draw a ton of new people in and help grow the platform.

The pool of people willing to buy an app for Lemmy is a lot smaller than Reddit, so it makes sense to jack up the price.

Yeah a bit steep - I'm hoping it's a bad calculation. OP said it's 12.99$, and other's have said 19.99$, so I have no idea where EUR22 comes from.

If you click on Sync Ultra in the left bar menu, it gives a list of everything currently included as well as a few features coming at a later time:
24Ultra sounds interesting for sure, but I'm not sure it's worth it. I might try 1 month later on. I think it's just because lemmy is smaller than reddit (for now :)) which makes these features less used, at least in the short term. Who knows, maybe in a couple years, it will be a no brainer.
9I paid to remove ads immediately (which is also what I did with Sync for Reddit), but I'm also waiting to purchase Ultra to see if it gains any must-have features. The app is already great in its completely free version so anything else will just be cherries on top.
4I'm doing it up support the dev. $2 a month CDN is a pretty small price to pay to support an app I use constantly! :)

Remove ads does exactly that and only that. Ultra has additional features. I don't have a link to what they are though. maybe someone else has that for you.

11I guess the reason I was confused is because typically there is no one time removal and everything is just a subscription. I appreciate that, at least for removing ads. The features in ultra are interesting but not worth it right now.

I just view Ultra to be covering the costs of continued development and server for cloud backup. It was a simple choice for me.

17Of all the android apps I tried and I tried them all, this is the smoothest feeling of them all, it's visually nice and the dev is highly dedicated to the app which you can feel using it.
I was using connect for the last week and I really liked that app, but Sync just feels better to me.

-2I see it the opposite way... I think Ljdawson realized there was no way to cover his costs with the sync for Reddit pricing. I paid the $19.99 gladly. Trust me he's not getting rich, he's earning a living.
