I really like the fact that the Lemmy community includes a whole swathe of trans folk, I learned some new stuff the safe way and that's really REALLY valuable to me.
I also really like the freedom that using Lemmy for social media empowers us with. Freedom of OS, Porn, whatever.
I can respect almost all kinks, ofc there's bound to be a couple I don't understand but that's not a problem for me, if every participant consented.
I dislike furry kink, it invokes a feeling of disgust in me. This post alienates me slightly from the Linux community. Not a problem, but it did make me realize I would want to be more careful linking my kinks to my favorite Tools/Software in the future in a global media setting.
2025 Is my Linux year. Last year I tried as well, but I hardly boot to Linux today. Before the year is over, Windows will OS non grata here. Except on my Surface maybe 🤔
"Fellas, is it a fetish to like girls?"
I wouldn't worry too much about the furry stuff. People aren't going to be pushy about it, but you will see Xenia here occasionally. Just consider her like a mascot and all is well :-)
It is not a kink. It's a hobby. For the vast majority, at least.
I'd argue for the vast majority it's both things.
From what I've seen while Linux support is okay for the Surface line, it's just not there yet to make sense as an "upgrade" power management and wireless still need some work if I recall correctly.
Oh, very nice, thanks for the heads-up. I might try now! Do you know of any foss app that could replace whiteboard? I don't like the MS ecosystem, but using the pen in whiteboard is pretty transformative use for me. I could ditch it but I would miss it.
This meme just threatened to undo the last 3 years of daily driving linux, by making me consider going back to windows
Sounds like weakness to me comrade.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
I think I'm hopping to TempleOS. It's going to take more than Windows to save me from this.

I love and also am Girl who stinks good

Xenia girlsmell 👀
If that's your point, I counter it with AROS
XENIA MENTIONED RAHHHH
I remember it so clearly man... The morning of October 15 2025, a Wednesday as I recall. People were warned but they didn't listen. They don't ever listen.
I'll never forget the screaming. Millions of Windows 10 computers just spontaneously exploding all over the place. Women, children and men with beards running down the streets of every city just trying to avoid the thousands of computers being thrown from the tops of buildings. The world was never the same after that. I found an abandoned bus in the chaos so I tried to save as many people as I could. We rode into the night towards the hills. Away from the cities and the looting and chaos.
Or you know... it just means no updates and we'll all probably be fine.
Or you know... it just means no updates and we'll all probably be fine.
Dude, I would be hesitant to use an OS more than a month after EOL. I hope you realize that your OS no longer receiving security updates is a really, really, really bad thing. People staying on Win10 instead of upgrading to Linux or macOS or downgrading to Win11 is going to be zero day heaven.
I regularly fire up my windows XP box to play hearts and muck about in Codewarrior
I remember even TheTechnician27 tried to warn us "it's going to be zero day heaven!" they said but everyone just shrugged and now here I am with my fellow refugees in the woods trying to catch some squirrels for my dinner.
"downgrading" caught me off guard.
I think it would be wise to disconnect it from the internet, wifi and bluetooth; then it should be fine.
Wont somebody think of the poor children and men with beards!?
Starts handing out the complementary cat ears, miniskirt, and programming socks to incoming Windoze users.
I've béen using mint for almost a year, wheres my girl that stinks good? :(
It was you all along! /jk
Oh no! Linux transed my gender! Again! (I'm agender but that wouldn't be as funny)
Debian ahoy!
I always imagine linux as a little hidden door to a speakeasy, but turns out to be narnia.
Already dual booting. Haven't used Linux since 2010 so it's been a bit of a learning curve. But now I haven't booted into windows for about 2 months now and it's been great for gaming.
Oh the times a-coming, but as I only really use my PC for gaming now, I’m holding out for a SteamOS distro.
I've heard good things about Bazzite if that's an option for you.
Bazzite has been awesome as a recent windows expat. 100% recommended and the only game I have not gotten working via the built in steam compatibility tools has been pubg.
you don't have to wait, games run fine in most distros and the ones that don't are probably because of anti cheat which won't be solved with steamOS.
Yeah, I keep my Windows PC purely for League of Legends due to their anti cheat (read rootkit) and it's a pre-2017 chip, so it's not Win 11 eligible (which I've always counted my blessings for). And also the Spotify web page doesn't work well for me on Linux. Other than that, I do pretty much everything on my newer Linux machine.
Valve is working on it.
Same here. The minute I can be confident than my steam collection will run on Linux, I'm switching over.
Have you tried? Because Proton is the miracle people make it up to be.
I haven't had any issues with any of my games.
For anything not on steam, there's bottles or lutris, both of which work amazingly well.
There was a comment thread in one of the Linux communities a while back talking about this mindset. Obviously the comments got a bit rude and unconstructive, but the point is that you can switch to something like bazzite now and most things will work pretty well, but if you're holding out until it's perfect then you'll be waiting forever!
The only game I have not been able to get running via steam/proton has been pubg.
Dont associate me with these fucking weirdos.
Can't stop, won't stop
Why not?
some of us dislike being associated with animal fetishists, you see
No.
I hate how relatable this is.
Big thing holding me up is domain auth. Someone had decent luck getting something like Bazzite joined to a DC without major manual work?
Ubuntu has official Microsoft AD support and allows domain joining during setup. There are downsides to Ubuntu as well, though, so if that's not an acceptable answer just know support exists and can likely be ported to anything with some effort.
Yeah, but I try and keep as little MS as possible, so my DC is a Linux system, which works fine for LDAP and MS systems joining, but somewhat ironically I've yet to be able to get a Linux system joined to it. They actually have a helper app even outside of sssd but it seems to be poorly maintained. Was trying Bazzite again today based on another comment but no luck so far.
Not bazzite specifically, but I have joined Linux systems to LDAP with the SSSD module which is...alright to enable and config in AD
I have joined MacOS to AD as well and THAT was like pulling teeth LMAO
Can confirm Bazzite is just fine with domain auth, no special intervention required.
Authing against a Synology NAS domain which is presumably running Samba under the hood.
Sweet, will have to take a further look at that. Had set it up to check the state of Nix games and it seems to be pretty decent (last I really looked was when StarCraft was still a big thing). Didn't see anything in the settings about ldap/ad auth in my messing about though.
I've tried before, that sounds horrible, why are you doing that to yourself.
I've worked at not small companies who still thought that was too much work to mess with.
Largely because half the services I host are tied to a Univention DC, and so are the current Windows client machines, I'd like to maintain that state.
I know Ubuntu has an AD option when you set it up, but it doesn't seem to work with any of the 'AD compatible' replacements I've tried.
Upvote for Khaby 😎
I'm buying a Windows 11 license.
And a new PC, or are you lucky enough to have sufficiently recent hardware that will support it, unlike thousands of others with otherwise perfectly good hardware?
I hope you enjoy your experience with it!
Thanking the heavens my distro doesn't have a mascot to embarrass me with (yet)
You don't need one :-)
