Personally, what really led me to read theory and move beyond the "Political Compass" style identification as replacement for horoscope type of political radicalization was actually entering the workforce, specifically in a manufacturing environment where stratification is painfully obvious and safety of precisely no real concern. That's the vaguest I can keep it, haha.
