Jon Voight’s Plan Raises Prospect Of Reinstating Fin-Syn Rules As TV Series Enter Tariff Conversation

He's a big time Trump supporter. He met with Trump shortly before the tariff was announced.
He is, but I’m actually intrigued by this idea. It’s something that was already in place at one time and repealed by Clinton. It’s similar to the “studios can’t own movie theaters” rule. And while I don’t think it will help Hollywood, I do think it could help artists and consumers.
There’s a larger problem at play in that studios own tv channels (cable/streaming/broadcast), Internet providers, content, and set top boxes. This “vertical integration” stifles creativity, competition, and limits points of view as the studios continue to merge into just a handful of outlets.
The Paramount Decree was abolished under Trump I BTW. It’s a lot harder to claim a lack of plurality when anyone can sign up to a large number of services from their couch. The old rationale of a studio owning the only Theater in town and controlling the bookings died with the multiplex.
