My wife, first time voter; She was never allowed to vote before
Today is election day in South Korea and it's a special one for our family because my wife was able to vote for the first time here in Korea after getting her Korean citizenship last year.

A leisurely stroll to the local school on a voting Sunday is indeed tradition in Germany. It's always nice to see some of your family, friends and neighbors there, have a chat and walk in to do your citizens duty.
I never had the experience of being unable to vote but it must feel very empowering to somebody who didn't have any influence on their country before. :) Congratulations to your wife!

I remember the mayor here (America) went to every freshly turned 18 year olds house and signed them up. He didn't care who you signed for, just that you were registered! It was nice.
I remember getting a hand written letter from my MP when I hit 18 - I loathe the party he represented but he was a proper gent. His seat was taken over by the current leader of the opposition party who is undeniably mental too, so I doubt she writes to her constituents to welcome them to the democratic process!
Oh, the mayor was part of the party I'd like to yeet into the ocean. But I'm registered and have voted in every major election since.
