Trump preparing large-scale cancellation of federal funding for California, sources say
The Trump administration is preparing to cancel a large swath of federal funding to California, an effort which could begin as soon as Friday, according to multiple sources.
As a citizen of California, I’m open to deepening this divide. When this stuff comes up, people will often talk about how Californians provides vastly more revenue to the federal government and other states than they provide us. That is true, but there isn’t a clear mechanism to withhold such revenue since individuals and their employers pay the federal government directly, and the state has no control over that. I’d be happy to withhold federal taxes if the state would commit to protecting me, and providing incentive for my employer to break with the federal government. I’d like to see California provide incentives and legal and military support for such actions. I’d like to see our state get really, really forceful and creative. Of course, democrats are in charge here, so nothing meaningful will really happen. In any case, fuck trump, fuck the feds, and fuck most of the rest of the states. I hate this country so goddamn much.
