Cattle industry walks away from net-zero target by 2030 pledge

    So, no offence to the livestock industry but this means the rest of Australia needs to commit to alternative protein sources to drive that 11% share of emissions down from the outside.

    This means the Government needs to be thinking and acting radically about supporting alternative competing industries like insect protein and the like.

    • Insect protein is quite a jump. There are millions of people around the world getting their protein from plant sources already. It's totally viable right now. People just have to choose it. And yes, the government should incentivise that.

    • Personally I think dietary protein requirements are overstated and people don't need as much as is recommended.

      • Really? Thats certainly a bold take. For me I'm happy to be guided by people who know more on the subject.

        Thinking about it, i suppose it could come down to experts looking for best health delivery, versus what people can actually survive with? I don't know.
