In a poll largely pointing to positive results, this one was a big fucking yikes:
Denying alleged gang members living in the U.S. illegally the ability to challenge their deportation in court:
All U.S. Adults: 50%
Hispanic Adults: 55%
JFC. "Should due process be cancelable on account of alleged ties?" 50% yes. And slightly more among people who are most likely to be alleged.
People need to get it through their thick skulls that cops at any level are not trustworthy deciders of guilt. The whole reason our system exists with all this process is that the founders knew they'd make false allegations.
- I assume they haven't seen the rundown on the math that gets people rounded up as "alleged" gang members.
  The copium is strong right now and that's major/"legacy" media's fault.
- You've called these people racists what else could you possibly do to get it through their thick skulls that this is wrong.

- He didn't misread anything. We can see now. It was never just about immigration. Trump, but more likely one/some of his sycophants, explained how hard-line immigration enforcement could help in removing political opposition with the help of a corrupt and stacked Supreme Court. The ability to revoke birthright citizenship so he can ship you off to whatever hellhole country he wants or you die in a concentration camp waiting to be deported, either is acceptable.

  It's definitely Stephen Miller. Zero doubt. He is the true believer in racist/white supremacist and the New York Times' recent story had multiple anecdotes about the DOJ and DHS/ICE being directly controlled by him, while Bondi and Noem are only interested in making TV appearances.
- I think the only position on immigration Trump cares about is Stephen Miller's. Also, someone who's supposed to be term limited, and will definitely rig the election if he somehow runs again anyway, doesn't really need to care about public opinion too much. It's not like there seems to be much risk of anybody overthrowing the government.
- I wouldn't call it nuanced. Many Americans just didn't really think about how immigrants impact their lives or what the words Trump said would mean in practice. They didn't have deep thoughts about how things should work and militarized raids are not it, they just kind of didn't think about it but now they have to and they don't like it.

They'll eventually fall in line and bleat about everyone else being a sheep. Like every time ever.

And yet there was also this poll just the other day that showed a majority of Americans approve of what ICE are doing under Trump:

- That's not what the poll asked. Wording matters a lot in polls. The question was worded as approval of deporting undocumented people in general - not necessarily of how Trump is conducting it. Quite a number of people have bought into the false the right wing narratives that most undocumented people are [insert negative thing here]. Then when they see brutal operations that don't reflect that narrative they start to oppose the operations - but not always realize the premise was false. When you poll on how Trump is conducting things, the approval falls a lot more
  EDIT: which also isn't to say that those myths can't be busted, just that such a thing takes longer. Acknowledgement that the current operations are horrifying is the first step towards that

There was just a poll posted the other day 60% of Hispanic people approve Trump's deportation of illegal (key word) immigrants: Trump doing well!
This poll, "79% say immigrants help the country" (missing the word illegal): Trump doing bad!
Forget the polls, the midterm election results will speak volumes.
